Sometimes the internal transformer/power supply may be getting weak or may be defective. It's the first component the power cord enters inside the TV.
Also, try plugging in an external speaker or headset. If it still makes the noise then its not coming from the built-in speaker(s). If not, then the noise may be being generated from hetrodynes (frequencies created due to interactions of the internal circuits) and this will be near impossible to isolate and correct. Sometimes high/low or general Pass filters (filters designed to let only certain frequencies pass) could solve the problem. Good luck with it.

Before I give this suggestion, you must decide if you feel comfortable opening the set, and working near high voltages. First, if you decide to open the back of the set, make sure it is on a stable surface, the majority of the weight of the set is in the front glass of the CRT. The second warning is to be extremely carefull, especially near the anode lead, which has a suction cup connector at the top of the picture tube, (CRT). Using only plastic, non conductive tools, you can usually press on the offending part. The flyback is the larger transformer which has the anode lead to the CRT connected to it. Many times, however, I have found smaller coils or transformers to be the cause. They usually have a ferrite core, which physically separates from the coil winding. After you find the part causing the squeal, you can sometimes remedy it by inserting a toothpick, or using some hot glue, (power off of course). Remember, the CRT anode still will have about 30,000 volts even with the power plug disconnected. Most repair shops are reputable, and if you prefer to take the set for repair, tell them a good friend of yours is a TV repair tech in another city. At least you know the most likely causes. Many will prefer to replace the problem part since they also need to warranty the repair, well worth the cost.

Often (but not always) the high pitched sound you mention is from a faulty capacitor. A good television repairman will take the time to discover which one but this can take a while and as such the repair bill will be higher.
