She is 6 years old, Friday I had to pick her up at school because she was throwing up.She was fine all day after I got her home, but then Friday night after she fell asleep she started throwing up again. Yesterday she was fine all day but then threw up in her sleep and didn't wake up when it happened. She hasn't been wanting to eat which is not like her, and I'm trying to find the cause of what is making her vomit. Can someone please give me some insight? Thanks.

There are no other symptoms at all...except the lack of appetite which is normal. She is totally fine all day and it seems to only happen at night.

Also, GTO, I resent the fact that you are saying this is a form of child abuse. Who do you think you are?

She has had NO FEVER while this has been going on. She has had hardly no appetite, that has been the only symptom. She will eat toast during the day and be fine. It's at night when she goes to sleep that she is throwing up.

It's amazing how people on here want to automatically assume your child is being abused or "neglected" when asked a health question. Try being a single parent taking care of not only your child but your niece and working a job making very little money and trying everything in the world to make ends meet before you assume the worst in a situation. Thank you to those who didn't judge.

It sounds as if she may have a virus. They are going around all over te country right now. Give it time to clear up. Wait at least 12 hours after she has been vomit free before you feed her anything solid. And at that point feed bland foods like mashed potatoes, any type of starchy food. Nothing greasy. No fruit juice or milk products for 24 hours after being vomit free. Give lots of fluids such as water (which is the best) or pedialyte.

Start a clear liquids diet. Weak chicken broth, 7Up or Sprite with the carbonation stirred out of it. Weak Kool-Aid, pediolyte to help maintain her electrolytes. Popsicles, jello, then add some white rice to the broth. No water by itself.
Vomiting in her sleep could cause her to choke or aspirate her vomit. This sounds like simple gastroenteritis, however, you do not mention if there are any other symptoms. Chills, fever, pain. She should be seen if she can't keep anything down. Dehydration is a real concern in a child this young. Most emergency rooms have to treat you even if you cannot pay. See if you can work out a payment plan. Remember, planning a funeral is much more expensive than a visit to the doctor.

Dear Gayle,
This sounds like a classic case of food-poisoning. I would suspect that she ate something with a lot of grease in it OR she ate something that was partially spoild or had some mold on it. Or maybe she ate some undercooked meat. Young children are especially allergic to hamburger grease (and some cooking oils). If she ingested olestra, which is a synthetic fat found in some cooking oils or in ALL Frito-Lay chips, that would do it. If she ingested something with mold on it, such as old applesauce or cheese, that would do it.
As a remedy, I recommend trying to get her to drink water. When she can keep that down, that will help flush her kidneys and her digestive tract. Later, try switching to citrus soda and dry toast. Gradually, her appetite will pick up. Then you might try jello and then cottage cheese. However, if she doesn't improve in 3 or 4 days, you really should take her to a doctor. Call a pediatrition, and explain what you have found out about what she ate and all that you have done for her. If you do not want to spend money on that, then go to a pharmacy and explain everything to a pharmacist and he or she will recommend an over-the-counter remedy that will neutralize and cleanse her system. And now I will pray for her. "Father God, I ask you to heal this little girl, eliminate the cause of her vomititing, and return her appetite, and restore her to full health by Wednesday, 10Jan07. I ask this, in Jesus' Name, Amen" God Bless Her!

You didn't say if she has/had a fever? When she was fine all day, did she eat regualar foods, did she eat a lot of food or a small amount of food? If she has a fever, you need to get her to a doctor. If she keeps vomiting she also needs to see a doctor. There are a lot of free clinics around that you could take her to. Maybe if you call a hospital near you and ask them if they could help you find a free clinic; or call 411 and see if they have the name of a free clinic.
I just looked in my yellow pages to find a free clinic and I couldn't find one anywhere. I know we have several in my town because I drive past one many times a week. It's listed in the phone book under the name of the clinic. If none of these work, maybe you can find a free clinic by asking around. If you call a non-emergency number in your town maybe they would help you find a free clinic. Don't dial 911 unless it is an emergency, they don't like that.
If she is still sick, please try to get help as soon as possible.

As long as she doesn't keep throwing up for more than a day or two she probably just has a virus. My kids all had the same thing a few weeks ago and it only lasted for about 24 hours then they were fine. Just be sure and keep fluids going in or she will dehydrate quickly. Throwing up for more than a day or two, I would definitely get them to a doctor whether I had insurance or not. It could be something very serious.

If there is a Childrens Hospital in your area, they have a consulting nurse who will answer all your questions. If not it would be better to owe a Dr. bill than have your child sick like that. Good luck.

Even if she throw it up...MAKE her drink lots of clear fluids like ginger ale, water 7-up & chicken broth. It sounds like the stomach flu. She can get dehydrated quickly so keep and eye on her and ring her to the hospital if her fever gets high....even if you can't afford it, they should still look at her.

most common cause of vomiting in children is viral illness. Temps? Other symptoms? Put her on clear liquids, pedialyte or such for a day and see how she does.
