What are the disadvantages of ring pit planting?

The only disadvantage that I can see from the ring pit method of growing sugarcane is that it is comparatively labor, time and cost intensive, especially if digging pits manually. This is offset to a degree with efforts to mechanize partially the manual part of this technique by using double pit digger i.e. tractor mounted auger which is more efficient and economical for the cane growers.
