My favorite place to go in Hong Kong is Causeway Bay. There are many cheap stores and street markets, and I'm sure you'll find something you like there. It is just one stop away from Mong Kok, and you can walk from the two cities easily. A great place to stop by is "Xu Liu Shan". It is a casual cafe that sells amazing fruit smoothies, mango drinks and other great snacks. I go every time I visit Hong Kong.

In Central, there is a subway line that goes to the Lantau Islands. I suggest going to see the Big Buddha at the Ngong Ping Plateau. From Central, the subway ride is about 40 minutes. To get to the Plateau, you can either take a bus or a cable car ride. The cable car ride is very scenic and it costs only about $11 USD. It lasts about 20 minutes and you get to see the Hong Kong bay and the mountains.

Stop by Ladies Market if you are going to Mong Kok. Although you said you aren't interested in brand name clothes, everything is CHEAP. You can get coworkers or relatives gifts, if you aren't shopping for yourself. And if you aren't interested in clothes at all, there is also a street selling electronic and entertainment goods. You can buy cheap DVDs, software, and mp3 systems for yourself or friends. Finally, there are streets selling little birds and exotic fish in Mong Kok. I don't remember the names of the streets, but they are both near the KCR train station. I love walking through there, because they sell pets that are so exotic and beautiful and you would never get to see them in America.

Hong Kong is a really great place to explore, so I hope you have fun!

Ladies market in Mong Kok, Harbor City in Tsim Sha Tsui, it is a biggest mall! Go to those small restaurents and try for dim sum. Go to Causeway Bay , there is this trendy shopping mall that you'll love!

If you have a chance, go to the Peak of Hong Kong! It is a great view.

Here are a few places you might consider:

1. In Central. A nice walking tour is take the Central Escalator to the top, then turn left and walk to the Hong Kong zoo. There are great views looking down the mountain into the city. The zoo and botantical gardens are also very nice.

2. Lantau Island. This isn't on your list, but it is one of my favorite places in HK. They now have a skyrail that runs from the Tung Chung MTR station to near the Po Lin Monastery, which offers great views. Then when you reach the top, you can visit the giant Buddha statute.

3. Wong Dai Sin temple in Kowloon. It is at the Wong Dai Sin subway stop at the red line.

4. 10,000 Buddha Temple in Sha Tin (new territories). This is a bit off the beaten path, but this temple has over 10,000 statutes of Buddhas in different poses. It is built up on a hill so you can walk up and look down on the city. It is right near the railway stop in Sha Tin. While there, you can also check out the shopping -- Sha Tin has chained together a number of malls into a giant mega-mall. The best one is the mall near Snoopy World.
