Flavius is a clan name, like Julius. The girls of the family were all given the feminine version of the name that ended in a. It is not the word for blond, which is close (flavus/flava). Roman society was divided into about 30 clans, and everyone in a clan would have the name of the clan as part of their own name. The name does not have a specific meaning of its own, but since there were only 30 clans it would have been common. Like Brown or Smith is today.

For example, take Gaius Julius Caesar:

Gaius - personal name
Julius - clan name
Caesar - family name

Well, I looked into it more and apparently they added the i to Flavius and are saying that it is derived from flavus, golden or yellow-haired. Odd that they would change the spelling like that.
