For a non Buddhist, this would seem to be the case, the Lord Buddha did not answer such questions because He knew that it would take a deep Understanding of Buddhism Practise and belief and would cause suffering due to misunderstanding and difference in Doctrine for an easy answer.

The other answers above are mostly correct, although on reading some, there must be differences in belief or understanding of the Dharma as there is no reference at all to reincarnation to find there, only Cause and Consequence as well as Rebirth as a Consequence of Karma.

Your knowledge is limited and is always going to be referenced to another Faith based on a soul and this makes it very difficult to explain the process of Rebirth, let alone the different Realms and therefore the consequence of Rebirth to Lower Realms, or even if were lucky a higher Realm.

Just understand that these concepts exist for Buddhists and so the question you raise is really a nonsense to a Buddhist. You have undersandably raised this question and from your point of view it is a valid one but because of your limited knowledge, you will always fail to fully appreciate the reasons why it is a moot question.

Please don't misunderstand me...it is a good question, I'll even award you a point for it, you are searching for an answer for what looks like a flaw in reasoning and from your point of view you are absolutely spot on, but there is a flaw in your knowledge which I can't explain to you without trying to convince you of my point of view. I won't denigrate your faith my learned friend, I encourage you to continue within it.

You obviously don't believe in Karma and you obviously don't understand its workings. For example Karma to Buddhists is a noun not a verb, Karma doesn't do anything, it is a name for a phenomenon, we don't say "..it happened because of Karma" you see Karma is the consequence of an Action we enact, it is definitely Not some cosmic esoteric Force which meets out punishment or reward, if you consider it this way then you are not understanding it at all I'm afraid......don't take offence...I don't expect you to understand such a difficult concept without proper teaching. It is a foreign and most misunderstood concept even by some Buddhists who claim understanding.

Just be it understood that ther are plenty of Life Forms which can evolve upwards from animal to human, or even down to animal or spirit. Life Forms do NOT, as some have suggested, include cockroaches or germs or bacteria or subatomic particles or other foolishness, Life Forms in this Realm are animal and human. Animal include all mammals, including marine mammals and birds, all of these have awareness. Insectoid creatures do not have awareness nor do the other things mentioned.

You are right there are about 6 Billion humans alive today, how many mammals are alive today, then how many humans will de evolve to animal Realms today or further downwards to Spirit Realms...there are several...to Hell Realms...also several....or upwards from these several Lower Realms....you need understanding and insight to explain these concepts and you don't have the knowledge....I'm sorry to disappoint you but I can't really explain the reasons for you.

Peace my friend from a Buddhist.

Karma is not what causes you to be born. Karma is the energy you create after you were born. A newly incarnate soul has no karma.

Most Reincarnationists believe in pre-existence (life before being born in a physical body), a belief which incidentally also has a biblical basis.

Earth is not the only stop in the journey of reincarnation. There are billions and billions of other realms of existence.

The souls that have learned from their Karma and don't need anymore time on this plane, don't come back. We are NOT ALL coming back, over and over. Millions are not coming back. Millions are finished with this earth. If you have been here numerous times and have learnt from all your Karmic mistakes, and healed yourself, you WON'T come back. You get your Good Karma from doing right, thinking right, forgiving. You get Bad Karma from not doing right, from not learning from past mistakes. The new people born are NEW people born. We don't know how many souls there are in the Universe, could be infinite, so the theory that there aren't enough souls to go around the billions on earth doesn't cut it.

Karma means action. Your question is not about karma but about reincarnation.

First every living form is reincarnated. You talk about the human population, there are much more. Take a look around you, and you will see reincarnated beings. We have no idea how many beings are reincarnated and how many being beings are waiting to be reincarnated. But it is this cycle that the Buddha wants to be free.

How ignorant...you forgot that this universe contains millions or billions of planets...reincarnation concept doesnt talk for planet earth alone...besides there are new souls and old souls...karma is our action...if you do good you get good results...and vice versa...simple logic...dun discriminate karma system becuz, every religion has its own way to moralize people...in christianity its out of fear that u wont go into heaven, for hinduism and buddhism its out of fear of the effects of karma...the objective is the same, the technique is different...but its all one GOD...thx. There are more "spirits", that live in every form of
intelligent life in the Universe, then there are humans.
Karma is basically the Forces of Creation keeping the balance. For every action, there is an opposite and equal
reaction.

I dont believe that everyone reincarnates .. but that it is a choice depending on the lessons we need ( or karma if you wish )
some may choose to remain in the next life for these lessons

"New people" come from birth. Karma comes from every thought, word and deed you think, say and do. Reincarnation could mean a great deal of things. Read.

there are many beliefs in reincarnations, well first, nobody said that there are no new souls, just like evolution idea, on the other hand, reincarnation could be not just as human, but as animals, bacterias, ants, insects. so can you count how many are there? and I bet they are getting less and less. everybody knows that some animals are getting extinct.
