I accidently cut myself when i kicked an abandoned broken bath tub in a dumping field. The cut's surface area is like 2mm squared, and it bled a tiiiny bit, but I washed the cut with soap and water less than an hour after cutting myself. I do know that the bathtub has been there for a long time under a REAL hot sun and it has rained a few times... But my friend suggested that since I bled (even though it was like a tiny speck of blood), I could have aids ;S... Is this true?

The only way you can get HIV/AIDS is if you come in contact with somebody elses infected bodily fluids. The HIV virus cannot survive outside the body. You cannot get AIDS that way.

Don't let your friends put that fear into you. The AIDS virus cannot live outside the human body for that length of time. It can only be transmitted sexually, or bodily fluids directly from an infected person. If you were stabbed with a dirty needle, or someone with the virus bled on an open cut of yours, then you could get it, but certainly NOT from an old tub that has been outside and subjected to the elements. You are alright. Maybe consider a Tetanus shot if you haven't had one in the last 5 yrs.

Your friend is full of crap. Unless someone with AIDS had very recently bled on the exact same spot, it would be impossible to get it from a cut. Actually, a cut from something sitting outside in the weather is probably alot safer than cutting yourself on an indoor surface, like in a bathroom or even a kitchen.

The only way you could have AIDS is if you had it before you cut yourself. The virus does not survive outside of fluids for any length of time. Tetanus is a possibility, but not too likely. If you get a test for aids do not tell anyone (especially insurance people) that YOU requested one, or they will think that YOU think you are at risk and either raise your rate or decline to insure you.

Relax - you don't have AIDS. The virus is fairly fragile, and can't exist for long outside the body. If you didn't have contact with someone's bodily fluids, then don't worry. A more real worry might be tetanus, and if you haven't had a tetanus shot (or a "booster") for a few years, you might want to ask your doctor -- especially if the bathtub was pretty dirty.

If you are so worried, why haven't you looked on the internet for more information? You only came to Yahoo Answers and that's it! If you found even basic information about AIDS you would have found that your brother would have to have it for you to get it. So if he doesn't have it then there is no way that you will have it. Are you serious that you didn't even find that out?

If there was HIV positive saliva, blood, semen, tears or sweat (in other words.....body fluids) on the surface of that tub which I highly doubt...then yes. If you remain paranoid...get a bloodtest...and a good therapist!

No. You should read up on your AIDS facts. There are so many sources out there, no need to list them here.
