i was told by a Dr. that it could be crippling. My son who is now 27 has had degenerative disc disease since he was 18, has had back surgery 3 times and is a father of 3 sons, he stays very active, he says he will not let it ruin his life, he fights the terrible pain 24/7 but has not given up.he says he is not going to live his life in a wheel chair,

Yes it is. My husband has both. The BEST thing you can do for self help is to stay as active as possible , lose weight, & if you smoke, quit. The surgeon told my hubby last week if he doesnt stop smoking, there can be no more surgeries to help him. A good way for exercise is in a pool as opposed to power walking or exercising.
