When I had my dogs I always added garlic to their food (I usually cooked their meals)
Washing them with tea-tree oil in the water also helps.

Sounds like you need to have your yard sprayed by a professional pesticide company. This will help eliminate the fleas in the immediate area and in your home. Before spraying your yard, I would ask the pest control company for a list of chemicals in their product that they would be using. Contact your veterinarian and be sure that this is ok to use with your dog in the yard.
You can have your dog "dipped" in a solution provided by your veterinarian or what I would do is, immediately,
I would bathe the dog with a solution of: 1/2 box of 20 Mule Team Borax. Let the solution dry on the dog. Do not rinse.
Borax will also treat your carpets. Sprinkle with borax and leave for 48 hours, then vacuum. Keep pets and children away during treatment.
Once the dog is dry, put an additional flea deterrent on the dog. I would suggest Zodiac, You can find it in Wal*Mart. Works wonders, and I would say it rivals any of the veterinary prescribed flea treatments such as Frontline or Advantix at a much lesser cost.
Next, I would get some Roach-Pruf (boric acid). You can buy this product at any hardware store such as Home Depot or Lowe's at a minimal cost. Powder the interior of all your baseboards in your home, and in and under the hotwater heater. Fleas love moist warm places. However, be very careful how and where you place this treatment. I would not sprinkle it where it can be accessed by children or other pets. Use this to get rid of the hiding fleas & eggs on the interior of your home. You won't have roaches either!
You can also use Sevin Dust, a treatment for plants, on your dog. This will not harm your dog or you. Just be careful and don't get it in his/her or your eyes. Powder daily from head to toe & tail. Sprinkle the powder on your dog's coat and massage it in thoroughly, making sure to work it all the way down to the skin.
Be sure to vacuum your carpets on a regular or even a daily basis and emptying the collection bag after each use. Taking the vacuumed trash out to the garbage after each use. Fleas breed and reproduce in vacuums, and you could possibly be reinfecting your home via your vacuum sweeper if you do not empty them after each use. Or if you're too lazy to empty it, put a flea collar on the inside of the vacuum bag area. This is the only place a flea collar should ever be used!
You can also use herbal remedies such as Eucalyptus, fennel, rosemary, rue, wormwood, or yellow dock as repellents around your home or on your pet. Check this website:
http://www.newhomeremedies.com/ or this one
http://www.fishlikefish.com/natural/fleas.php
There are plants you can place in your yard to repel fleas and other unwanted insects:
I've heard that there is a monthly pill you can now give your dog called lufenuron. It is only available for dispensing by your veterinarian. I have no idea what this costs.
There you have a few ideas.
Good luck!

One year we seemed to have the same problem, This is one of the things we did. Go to a vetrinarian supply Company. Talk to the owner of the store and tell him what is happening in your home. Do you have other pets such as cats and do they go outside? If your dog goes outside he will pick up fleas from the yard and other animals. Thier is also frontline that you can put on your dog be sure to use the right application, per weight. You may also have a nest of fleas which will harbor in hay etc. Fleas actually hop on and off just to get a meal. The problem is, if you do not get the flea problem resolved the infestation will become a household infestation itself. Fleas can also hurt your pet...such as tapeworm and in other ways as well.
This is what I did...........wash your dog with a good flea shampoo, read instructions on application. Take the dog out of the house.
Get a good flea bomb for your yard and house, depending on how large your home is; you will need to buy one or up to three or four sprays per square feet of your home (MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS WASHED AND CLEAN when you return to your home pots and pans, dishes and all wrapped and unwrapped foods are taken out of the house.)
If my memory serves me right...it will be three to four hours before you can return with your items including the dog.
If you use frontline, you must wait two days before giving your dog a bath. The chemical works with the oils in your dogs skin.
Application is placed between the front shoulder blades of the dog. So you may want to put the front line on first and plan on bathing your dog two day before you bomb your house and yard.
You may need to rebomb your home in four to six month to be sure to keep the eggs from hatching.
If your flea investation is really bad and out of control you may have to consult an exterminator.
Many people believe bathing a dog to much is bad for them..
I bath my dogs once a week, you would be surprised how much that helps keep the flea's down. Be sure to buy a good pet grooming shampoo and conditioner...Lambert Kay is a very good product which you can find a Pet Smart.
Hope this helps

Use Advantage or Frontline.
FOR THE OLD WIVES TALES
1 lb of liver
2 eggs
1 C of WW flour
1 C of Cornmeal
14 lg cloves minced or 2 -3 Tbl minced Garlic
Puree these in a blender of food processor then place on greased cookie sheet which can be used for bar cookies.. Spread out thinly,
Bake @ 350 for 15 mins then flip over and bake another 5 mins
cut while still warm into long strips then cut the other direction ... making little squares which become treats.
For tracking food cut into thin strips both directions.
Hope this helps plus the dogs love it
GOOD LUCK

I agree FRONTLINE is good - get it a the 1800petmeds website. - flea bomb every room in your house - make plans for you and your pets for the day..... you may wan to have a groomer take care of the fleas the day you bomb the house - but, DON'T immediately use the frontline after that - you don't want to use two different pesticides on the dog.

If you can get the fleas out of you house, bathe you dog in dawn dish detergent and leave him or her soaped up for about ten minutes, rinse them and all the fleas will be gone.

You need to call in a professional to treat your home, but our dog needs frontline as well. The professional experminator should treat the inside of your home and your yard as well.
