The contoversy surrounding the Da Vinci Code should be a no-brainer even to non-believers.
1) The author states that this is a fiction.
2) Da Vinci was not born during the time of Jesus.
3) Da Vinci is not a historan. He is a painter.
Does it offend some Christians(Catholics)?
I am sure some Christians would be offended but I am also sure that some Christians are more amazed that people would believe a fiction just to prove that there is no god.
A famous king once said this
"A fool has said in his heart that there is no God"
Hope this helps

"The Da Vinci Code" offends beliefs across all Christianity, not just Catholicism.
Here are some of the fallacious claim therein:
Jesus is not God; he was only a man.
Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene.
She is to be worshiped as a goddess.
Jesus got her pregnant, and the two had a daughter.
That daughter gave rise to a prominent family line that is still present in Europe today.
The Bible was put together by a pagan Roman emperor.
Jesus was viewed as a man and not as God until the fourth century, when he was deified by the emperor Constantine.
The Gospels have been edited to support the claims of later Christians.
In the original Gospels, Mary Magdalene rather than Peter was directed to establish the Church.
There is a secret society known as the Priory of Sion that still worships Mary Magdalene as a goddess and is trying to keep the truth alive.
The Catholic Church is aware of all this and has been fighting for centuries to keep it suppressed. It often has committed murder to do so.
The Catholic Church is willing to and often has assassinated the descendents of Christ to keep his bloodline from growing.

Yes, the Da Vinci Code is filled with lies and half truths about Christianity, the Catholic Church, and even Leonardo Da Vinci.
Many people are taking this fictional book and movie as fact and are using some of its very strange theories to attack Christianity and the Catholic Church.
Do a quick search in Yahoo Answers and you will see some of these attacks.

<> from an earlier answer.
The bible is also a book that people just read and blindly beleive every word it says. I would imagine that the majority of christians, catholic or otherwise, do not know the own history of their church.
The part of the book, or movie, and the chatteau(sp?) with Sir Lee Tebing brought out a glimpse at this history. Everything they talked about concerning Constantine, and the Council of Nicea, was accurate. This is how, and why, the christian church was created.
The grail story, and the possibility that Jesus married and had a child, have been talked of for a long time. This book just finally made it something popular to talk about.
People of the church are offended because they want you to believe whatever you are told, and not truly think for yourself. This is even true in the days of Martin Luther and the Reformation. This was true doing the Age of Enlightenment.
During the early years, and even today, the Vatican tried very hard to make sure they controlled all the knowledge. Knowing how to read and write were heavily monitored, and even illegal for women. If you can't read, you can't educate yourself, interpret readings, and form your own opinion. You are at the mercy of those with the information.
Let me ask you this. The Vatican has more secretive information hidden away in and under its grounds. Much of it the scrolls and writing not accepted into the bible in the 4th century. Why confiscate those documents. They were confiscated because they held very different views of the life of christ, and what the true intention of god and jesus were. Many of them referred to jesus in a mortal sense. He was considered a prophet, and nothing more.
Why does the Catholic church have one of the most advanced scientific departments in the world? Why is it that the Vatican, thought smallest country in the world, have more money than most other countries?
This book was hated not because it challenged the very core of christianity, but because it brought that long held challenge to the eyes of millions. Now it is popular, and ok to talk about. They don't want their people doing that. They want them to continue to allow themselves to be spoonfed their beliefs as they have done for centuries.

It is an offense in the sense that it denigrates all that Holy Mother Church defends, ie, the divinity of Christ, the sacrifice on the cross, the resurrection of Our Lord and His salvific attainment for our sake.
Those who listen to or accept this nonsense apparently either don't realize or don't care that if this legend were true it would negate the entire Scripture, it would render ALL three monotheistic faiths moot and irrelevant and put Christianity in the same vein as the old polytheistic polyglot pastiches of ancient Greece and Rome.
I wonder if perhaps that was Mr. Brown's original intent.
And it's "The Da Vinci Code". From Leonardo DaVinci, a Renaissance painter, architect, inventor of just about everything, military strategist, physiologist, linguist, teacher, historian and all-round genius who gave us the meaning of "Renaissance Man".

No............i didnt think so.The book didnt offend me bcoz is just that.........just a book..
But...for all the persons that are offended by it..Why do u feel offended??? dont you think that some of the things in the book can be true??? why not???
We have no proofs on the contrary, and we cant be so much stupid thinking that every what the Church or Vatican said to us is all the truth and only the truth.
Rules were maken by men............arent divine........some centuries ago many men were able to do anything to keep their power.
Dont you remember that several popes were married???
Some of them passed their power to their own sons. They killed their enemies to keep that power.
Dont you remember the Inquisition??? They were men from God......................but they killed innocent pple in the name of GOD..
So....stop being afraid and bothered about a novel, that the only thing it made , was to tell us some things that can be true .....or not......but finally is only a novel.
by the way.....i enjoyed too much The Da Vinci code
For those that think that "the holy mother church" is perfect.........it is not.....too much lies inside it...if you dont believe me, read the history. I'm catholic......but not blind!!!!!!!!
WOOOWWWWW............Tattoo980..
Finally someone thinking as i do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the Catholics are very matured. This is a fiction. Why should they worry after the book is published. The mystery is exposed. No ripple will affect the faith that is going on. More people will get interested to know whether it is true and if told otherwise, the enquirers could be possible candidates for the sharing of the gospel. But the writer becomes a rich man indeed. His security is now endangered. He would required bodyguards to protect him. His freedom now is restricted because of his riches. What an irony!

Yes Njel, as a Catholic I was offended by the suggestion that Jesus did not rise from the dead nor ascend into Heaven as this book suggests, but seemingly married Mary Magdalene and moved to France to start a family.
It is heretical and flies in the face of revealed scripture and God`s truth, and to offend so many people just for money and fame is shallow and selfish.
