My grandmother (who has just turned 81) gained a daughter in law in 1993 when her son married. Since then (and more especially now as they have two children) she has shown no appreication towards my grandmother (despite my grandmother letting her live in our holiday home and we looking after their farm in Wales). Should my grandmother simply state that we would like some appreciation?

its sad but I guess that appreciation you have to ask for probably isnt genuine so may not be worth having.
You obviously have genuine love for your gran & I'm sure that means far more to her :o)

By not saying anything, your grandmother is letting it be known that she's tolerating her DIL for the sake of her son. If her son wasn't around, I'm sure your grandmother would have no problem running that woman off.

Your aunt's behaviour is not fair..especially since your grandmother is so old and so generous...but to be fair perhaps the aunt has a reason to it all, could find out if someone takes her into confidence..and THEN have the two talk it out

Some people have never learned to say thank you and just accept everything that is done for them It sounds like your uncle and his wife are two of those people (I say your uncle because I cannot understand whay you are just blaming his wife). I think he is just taking his mother for granted as most children of all ages do. if she wants to say something i suggest she says it to him.

Some people are just rude and ungrateful by nature, you won't change them so its best to leave them to it unfortunately.
