Origin: English

Spelling variations of this family name include: Wilbur, Willbur, Wilbeorht, Wylbert, Wilbert and others.

First found in Huntingdonshire, where the name appeared in the 13th century.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Peter Wilbert, who arrived in North America in 1616; along with Nikol Wilbert who arrived at the same time. Later came Samuel Wilbert, who arrived in Boston in 1633 and David Wilbur, who came to Nova Scotia in 1760.
