Persian poems, depending on the poet, are very deep in meaning either politically or emotionally. Hafez was both, however his poetry is very difficult to read, even for many Iranians. Ferdowsi, who wrote much simpler, yet just as deep, is another poet I suggest delving into. I don't remember his birthname, but Rumi was an Afghani poet. Many of his works are also well known. There are others out there, of course, but these three are the top three that all have touched the lives of everyone who has read any of their works in one way or another.
