I asked a question about spanking and 69% of believers think it's ok to hit a child!!!! If at any point I thought that maybe we should respect people's right to believe and practice their religion...now it's gone!

Let me make myself clear: should any religion that say it is ok to spank a child to discipline them be allowed to exist?
And there is no difference between, spanking or smacking: the end result is the same, the child gets hit!

Lets see...
If relgion was good the holy land would be nice and peaceful and friendly.
So far the only good relgion are wicca/witch/pagans as no history or relgious wars/repression/sexisim/homophobia/negative fear and obession with sex making it a focus for their moral code.
Plus no inquisitions, sharia law, or organised kid abuse homes or family honour killings.
So er yeah ban it.
Have everyone same basing ethics on being nice to each other.

The bible Say's spar the rafe spoil the child.
I'm a christian and yes I have gave my children a spanking before that doesn't mean child abuse that means a smack on the butt. And if your going to base your belief on only that you never had a belief to began with. Even if I was wrong for spanking my children, which I don't think I was God forgives and when judgment day comes I will face all my mistakes as everyone will. But I won't stop believing in God or stop practicing what I believe in no matter what this world tries to ban. I would rather face him for making a mistake for spanking my child than making the mistake of not believing in him.

Religion does many bad things on our society, and many wars, almost every war is started because of it but without religion, there is no belief. Without belief there is confusion. First of all if we Ban religion all the Democrats would go crazy along with every other religion fanatic. Not only that but i can see the people that come up with that idea killed by some Religionists. It would drive our society into chaos. A lot of the u.s's population would go on strike, religious people and not. Plus about the spanking children thing, it is tradition and discipline. It should never be done harshly to where it injures the child and it should only be used as a last resort in case that child is disobedient any other way. Lets say your at your house and your child is screaming his head off, "I WANT COOKIES! I WANT COOKIES!!!!" Its just about dinner time and you refuse to give them cookies. They then throw a fit and start screaming their heads off and stomping around. They then don't stop and refuse to be obedient and wont stop to anything such as threat for grounding or toy confiscation. the Child needs a reason to not want to do that. and spanking sometimes can be the only solution. But i don't believe it should be done after the age of 10 varying on the maturity of the child. Spanking isn't that bad and definitely isn't a threat on our society.

Yes, ban certain things like people using their religion as an excuse for child abuse (example spanking children) and neglect (not allowing their child to have medical care because of their religion, as a result, the child dies.)
Although I do believe people have the right to believe whatever they want (no matter how much I think it is nonsense); I do not believe they have the right to force their beliefs on others...this applies to their own children.

I am a 33 yr old man and I was spanked when I was growing up. I was never hit in the face or anywhere above the waist. When I really got into trouble I would get a spanking on my behind. Most of my friends growing up had similar dicipline and none of us are damaged in any way...psychologically or otherwise. I don't believe in hitting children, but a spank on the behind never hurt anybody. Now, as for religion....one of the greatest freedoms we have as Americans is the freedom of religion and the freedom to worship freely as we see fit. I pray that this is the one freedom that is never taken away from us. Be careful what you wish for when you talk about banning freedoms in this country.....it's easy to say but would be tragic if this freedom was ever taken away from us.

Well, I'm an Atheist but banning religion would be total Chaos. It's something that some people need and if deprived of it, they will feel attacked and in return will retaliate. Religion is frequently abused but not all who are religious are destructive or intolerant. Besides, it would be impossible to enforce a ban -- religion would go underground where it would become even darker.

I agree reading is good..... The "right" people have to believe what they choose are the exact same rights that you exercise. So be careful what you wish for.
As far as spanking.....you should go to the parenting forum and ask that question as it really has nothing to do with religion.

The bible says that a child should have its head smashed by rocks for cheeking it's parents. Lovely. I agree with an earlier poster's view. Religion should not be allowed into any child's life. When they are 18 they can follow these infantile belief systems if they want to.

Wait a second ... you're basing your call to ban religion on the results of totally unscientific results of a question you asked on an Internet forum?
People who believed in bans on religion -- namely communists -- are responsible for the deaths of 150 million people (and counting) over the last 80 years.
Why do you want to get into ideological bed with them?
What's more wrong here -- giving a kid a smack on the butt for being naughty, or sending millions of people to die in gulags?
The latter is what the communists -- the ATHEIST communists -- did.

Friend, You are not really making yourself clear, I didn't see your other question, Yes as a Christian I beleive in spanking, to correct a child, But no it is not oK to Hit, There is a big difference in spanking & hitting, I don't believe in abusing a child. There are many scriptures that let's a parent spank & correct a child, But not to abused them.
