Im a Decorator before i start, and there are a few ways, depending on what you want, to open the walls up you should use a light coulour, maybe Gardinia its a very nice colour, and for a light reflectivity trick use Soft Sheen for the finish, Dulux do a paint that is made to do this, but it is watered down Soft Sheen. the next trick is to put stripes on the wall, in wallpaper, if they are vertical it will lift the ceiling, and horizontal will make the hallway look long, good luck

If you use directional lights that bathe the walls you'll find the corridor looks wider. Mirror does also add a feeling of space, but if there is room, make a feature of it by using an overmantle mirror, with a narrow sofa table underneath (Ikea do a cheap one that's very narrow) and use candlesticks, family photos etc. to give the area the feel of another room and a bit of personality. Selling a house is about creating ambience.

I would suggest pale colours for the walls and flooring - small pattern on any wallpaper or fabrics, and strategically placed mirrors & lighting. Plus little or no furniture to give an uncluttered look, and maybe a light toned picture of the 'wide open spaces' type to open out the wall even further.

Put in a small rail of ceiling lights, like the halogen ones which come on a rail of three or four. If you can paint it, apparently a darker floor with lighter walls makes it look bigger, although not sure what your time limit is!?

A light colour on the walls cream or something and a dark floor. This is something i have tried (in a small bathroom) Used white tiles on the walls and dark black/blueish floor tiles. also the use of mirriors help but never put two mirriors facing each other as this has the reverse affect.

We've painted our hallway white and down one wall put floor to ceiling mirrors. This gives the illusion of the hall being twice as wide.

Keep it very simple. Light paint and a mirror at the end of the corridor.

Add mirrors - they become windows. Perhaps painting it a lighter colour and adding lighting fixtures/sconces would work as well.
