I don't think it was a joke. You Aunt might have noticed him looking your way as you did and then mentioned to you that he liked you (because he was checking you out). He has a girl friend but there is nothing wrong looking. He did the right thing by telling you that he had a girl friend.

How old is your aunt? Maybe she read his "signals" wrong (too much of a generation gap can do that). Unless your aunt is a trickster or vindictive, I'm sure she wasn't trying to play a joke on you.

I think your aunt in playing matchmaker without checking her facts. You may have noticed him, but he says otherwise. Don't waste your time, if he is interested, he will let you know.
