i am a healthy 22 year old women and have always eaten friut, veg and dairy products on a daily basis since i was a baby
but
since i have begun university 3 years ago i had begun to get allergic to almost every single fruit imaginable and the list is continuing to grow till this day,
like: cherry's, apples, plums and a few days ago grapes,

(i mean what the f**k)
is this normal??
i went to the doctor many times about this 2 find out the cause of it & the doc said it was prob due to the fact that universities are full of roaming germs due to all the collective people who move there from around england and the world.
does this mean that this is going to effect me for the rest of my life? :'(
has this happened to anybody b4 or is it just me being very unlucky?
and what can i do 2help prevent these allergies, i dont want 2 give up eating fruit

I also am allergic to many fruits...I am allergic to them when they are raw, but not when they have been cooked (because the shape of the protein changes), and my symptoms are that my throat feels like it is pins and needles for about 20 minutes after I have eaten the fruit(it is called Oral Allergy Syndrome). I, too, am collecting more allergies as I get older. Unfortunately, we are old enough now that we will not be desensitizing and we will need to avoid these allergens permanently. It really does suck! I love the things I am allergic to!
However, allergies are serious and the more you expose yourself to something you are allergic to, the more severe your allergy becomes. Therefore, it is in your best interest to avoid your allergens. You can expect that you will become sensitized to more things as you age (*sorry*). My nut allergy has progressed to an anaphylactic allergy (which is life threatening).
My suggestion is to establish yourself with an allergist and continue to see him over a long time. he can help you trend your progress and give you an idea of what type of allergy you have, what the severity is, and what you can expect in the future.
Good Luck!

The specialist you really need to see is an allergist, to determine if you are truly allergic to these foods- or if there is some other explaination. Secondly, the intolerance to milk could be genetic if you come from an asian family. You might have better luck in that department if you bought a product called "Lactaid", which adds the bacteria needed to digest milk and milk products. It comes in a liquid form to add to a carton of milk, and as tablets that you take before or after consuming it or other dairy products. A person can acquire a food allergy at any age, although it most commonly makes itself apparent in early childhood. It is possible you have become allergic, but it is also possible that it is due to something else. If you are truly allergic to these food items, there is nothing you can do about it except avoid them. Allergic reactions are caused by the immune system being sensitized to a particular item, and you can't shut off the immune system. Until you are able to have a full evaluation and testing by an allergist, your best bet would be to avoid these items.

Well, let me tell you about allergies. Our bodies are fascinating and strange the way they work. In order for an allergy to develop, you first need to be exposed to the allergen a first time and it has to be a sufficient amount of it. At this initial encounter, there is no reaction. Your body then basically prepares itself in a way which the next time you encounter the same allergen, a reaction occurs. This may be as mild as a rash, or as severe as swelling. You really can't prevent allergies. It's just something you'll have to learn to deal with and work around.

Great posts fo far (mostly)....also, I just bought the book (you'll laugh when you hear this!) called "Skinny B*tch". I love it! It explains so much, also what you should/shouldn't eat. There is also a book that goes along with it called "Skinny B*tch in the Kitch". I just make a meatless meatloaf recipe from it and it was sooo good! The books are directed to an audience of women in their 20s and 30; but my boyfriend read it, and was interested too, he says whatever I cook he'll eat! Look it up on Google.

the best advice i can give is to find another doctor for a second opinion..me,myself got some allergies to a certain food,i tried to have a check up and all that they provide me is a temporary relief, that's it taking an anti-histamine.i already asked an immunologist and he told me this is a case of hypersensitivity, which is,,well so unlucky for me.I really need to have an anti-histamine at hand or resort to an immuno-shot for a certain period of time, untill i get use to a certain allergen,..we'll never know what's going on inside our bodies so better have a second opinion from a credible one and someone who has the authority to tell you things about that pesky allergies,,try to see an allergologist/immunologist before it flares up and become severe.Good luck..

try going to see a nutricionist or just a another doctor all together. many people become allergic to things/foods as they get earlier, too.
