I've charged the battery, made sure both the battery and memory card are in place, I've made sure the lid to the battery receptor was closed - what more should I try before sending it in? (I live in Malaysia, so sending it in is a BIG deal)

Thanks!

Hold the button for two seconds. Take picture connect SD card to computer. Maybe LCD is broken. Internal memory could have been damaged. See if connecting to PC helps. You could do a firmware update free via camera's website.

Instead of relying on the batteries being recharged, I would buy new batteries and just make sure. Sometimes these rechargable batteries are not what they are supposed to be, or they have recharged to their limit. Also, check the positive and negative, ( making sure the batteries are in correctly. It also wouldn't hurt to call the manufacturer first if new batteries don't work. Good Luck..

Only thing I can think to suggest is that you check batteries are in the right way round. However, if they are not I think you might find the camera won't work when you reverse them (I once ruined a digicam doing that)
