I guess it depends on how old your son is? If he is only a toddler then always make sure his nails are cut to a length that they shouldn't hurt if he does scratch, every time he does do it take him too his room and make him have time out (depends on his ages as to how long) eg. 5 years old make him stay in his room for 5 minutes, when the time is done, go and explain what he is doing is wrong and that it hurts you, it may take a few times for the message to get through, but whatever punishment/reaction you decide to give it should always be consistant so he eventually gets the message...
Good Luck

As for pinching the child back to teach them "how do you like it" - I am shocked that anyone would suggest that. It is abuse, plain & simple. You are teaching your kids to be abusive and bullies because all you do is teach them how to fight instead of using words (talking) to explain their frustrations.
I talked to my (now 4 year old) son all the time when he was growing up and he now has a very good vocabulary. He can tell me that something is wrong, even if he doesnt always know the right words. I ask a few questions to get an idea. The hitting and biting (yes he went through that stage) has now disappeared.

i agree with benji here, my mom used to do it to us when we were little and i did it with my child when she was little, some kids think it's ok to hit or scratch to get what they want and that ain't cool, and some are too little to understand the words, " that isn't right, you can't do that" so do the things they do back to them, they feel what it's like and understand it ain't a good feeling, but be consistant about it, even if they cry, wich will happen the first couple of times, ofcourse, be mild, a kid can't handle as much as we adults can,so dont draw blood like he does lol good luck with it

Scratch him back or give him a little pinch when he does it. Classical conditioning. He'll associate the pinch with the scratching and stop doing it. You would just have to be consistent with the pinch.
