If being gay in islam is a sin against allah, and in some countries is punishable by death, how come there are so many websites for gay muslims? Looks like a lot of muslims are being selective in their obedience to their religion. Surely this means that if muslims can be selective in the parts of the koran they adhere to, couldn't they just not adhere to the 'jihad' and 'kill the infidel' bits in the koran, and make the world a safer place?

ABELKHOUCHE - visit one of the sites to see for yourself. I quote from one ''this website is to support gay MUSLIMS and their families'' Also, a small percentage of the 1.4 billion muslims is a lot of gay muslims. Maybe you're one of them - trying to hide your true sexual identity by vehemently denying it.

Dima - ho-one is trying to make a correlation between gays and global safety. You have completely missed the point of my question by going off at a tangent on the defensive. Stick to the point.

So you are saying that all the gay muslims can organize and make the Middle East safe and tranquil?
I would say that is a big expectation.

I would like to say first that this isnt really a question. I personally feel like this is an attack towards islam, and thats fine, but its also a pretty uneducated attack. Ofcourse Islam, as well as Christianity and Judism, are against the concept of being gay. These three faiths believe in the same god, and the religions themselves are very similar. The difference though in this case is that those religions arent as strict towards gays. Islam is the newest of the three, so you can make that the reason for this. Muslims can not be selective in the parts of the Qur'an that they believe in, but all people tend to make themselves exceptions. This is wrong. It is also wrong for muslims to kill people without reason. It is wrong for them to kill harmless women and children. But you have to understand that the world is not a safe place not just due to Islam. If you look at the situation in Palestine and Israel for instance, you would see that the Palestinians are only trying to proctect themselves, their homes, and their lands. The Israelies came to their country and are trying to invade, Palestinians are simply fighting back in whatever way that they can. The Israelies are the ones who are bombing Palestinian cities, and are definately killing more people than the Palestinians, and these killings involve more children than ever seen. I understand that the 9/11 crisis was by muslims, but if you ask me they denounced islam the moment they planned this. America had not attacked anyone at that point, and it was clearly wrong. I can in no way justify this.
Also you can not compare being gay with world peace, i am almost 100% sure that there is no correlation between the two.
You can not blame a religion for the misfortunes of the world.

Religion is a choice, being gay isn't.
Human nature (ignoring religion for a second) is such that people "naturally" want love and affection from other people (not sure about the camel thing).
For gay muslims (or anyone else whose religion preaches that homosexuality is wrong) who want to feel loved, they have to ignore that aspect of their religion.
If they don't ignore it, that leaves a huge gap in their lives. That's something that's truly horrible. We're only here for such a short space of time - why deny yourself that love and affection? I thought that God in whatever format your religion takes was more aimed at preaching love and compassion for all. There are no "buts" (that's "but", not "butt"!).
As the song goes, "the greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return".
Oh and Max - it does happen in nature; over the last 10 years it's been the subject of a huge study by Dr Bruce Bagemihl. It's not that it doesn't happen - it's just that previously, it's never been reported. Same as gay muslims really....

Ive said it beofre and ill say it again. Judaism, Christinaity and Islam are all related to each other. TGhey are all practically the same however Islam being a more advancement of the earlier two. You must understand that neither christianity or judaism accept homosexuality and yet there are individuals who are gays from the religions out there. There are gay muslims which is also against THEIR religion. But you are generalising for the entire religion.

Reality is that the more a religion prohibits a perfectly normal person from being themselves, the more they need help and support to overcome religious hatred. Thus although the various christian faiths do all tend to dislike homosexuality, there is such a wide variation in the opinion that they cannot all be said to hate. Unfortunately for muslims, there is a much mor eunited front against being gay they need way more support to help them deal not only with their inner turmoil but also the hatred thrown at them by non-gay muslims.
As an analogy, look for websites that try to help gay catholics. With the catholic church basically very opposed to things gay, you will find more than one.

I wonder how many practising Roman Catholics practise birth control. I wonder how many RC seminarians are gay?
Many people who adhere to a faith have problems with some part of it and have a great struggle within themselves.
Most Moslems do ignore the Jihad and infidel killing parts - otherwise the world would be a lot more dangerous than it already is.
And while we're on the subject of violence in the name of religion, may I point out that Islam doesn't have the monopoly. The bloodiest religion on the face of the earth is still Christianity.
Thank God I'm am atheist!

Well if they are gay they have obviously gone against what Allah has forbidden therefore they are misguided.
Therefore they come out of the folds of Islam which equals them to not being a true Muslim.
If they choose to be Gay its entirely up to them, it should not conflict with any of us
I guess you have misconseptions about Jihad?
Jihad is about struggling and striving in the way for Allah for example my Jihad is wearing the Veil.
Anyway Allah knows best

Islam does recognize that a person can be gay, which in itself is not a sin; the sin is when the person has sexual relations with a person of the same sex. Sex and sexuality are 2 different things, in the same way that a straight person may not have sexual relations with a person of the opposite sex until after marriage.
I dislike people who judge Muslims for deciding how they wish to live their lives. If a person wishes to ignore sections of the religion it is entirely up to them, I couldn't care less and neither should you.
Finally, Jihad is important and in the context of global politics should only be used as a self defense mechanism, which in places like Iraq and Afghanistan people are using as is it widely viewed that these are unjust wars.

What are you talking about? You take a small percentage of the Muslim population then all of a sudden say alot of muslims are being selective. You didn't take into consideration that some of those gays were Arab and not Muslim. I wish yahoo had a way to keep people with mental deficiencies out of here. You were sweeping generalizations displays your ignorance too freely.
