While the tolerance you are refering to was rampant back in the middle ages, and indeed it was best to be in Islam influenced societies, that is not the case today.

Muslims are told in the Koran to respect and even love the People of the Book (Christians and Jews). However, that can only be until the end times, when they are told to kill us all. Don't believe me, look it up in an unedited, traditional Quaran.

Christians began to be oppressive when the Pope became a religious AND political head, and they all wanted more and more power. The political side of the Roman Catholic church is the worst thing to ever happen to the world and to christianity. the church (the true body of believers) should never have been institutionalized in THIS PARTICULAR MANNER. but greed overcame truth. And truth, being a gentleman, stepped aside to let men make their own mistakes.

but back to the question, Islam means, literally, "submission [to peace]" not just "peaceful". don't be fooled. Mohammad was a man of conquest, a warlord, and his religion follows suit.

I am a muslim, but sadly to say, it is not the case like what your question is. It depends on is the party majority or minority in a place.
In a place where muslim is majority, yes, some respect other religion with "limitations", but where christians/catholics are majority, they will respect other religions without limiting the others.
So, this is that we need to change as a muslim. We must respect each other as different religion and give freedom to each other to practice each other's religion.

how can you say this when there are so many Islamic theocracies in the middle east? In Saudi Arabia, Islam is the only religion allowed to be practised. Why are a large number or Muslims hateful towards Jews? Shouldn't they respect them if your view was even close to accurate. Also take a look at the theocracy of Iran.

There were no Muslims before Phrophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H)
but they did worship Allah. Phrophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the Last Phrophet. There were 1000s before him.
But in the Quran only 25 are mentioned. (Adam, ....., Imbrahim, Ismael, ....Isa, Muhammad.). Christiam Phrophets were often Muslim ones whose names were changed in FALSE retellings by other people. Stories in the bible are copied from the Quran.
If anything, Jesus was a Phrophet.

Because it says in the Quran to respect other religions. If Allah (God in Arabic) wanted, he could have made all humans worship Him, like the Angels. But He gave them a choice.

Muslims accept and respect all prophets of Jews and Christians ( Jesus, Moses, Abraham etc)..So they respect the followers of these prophets.
