I usually get headaches after a stressful day... especially the first day of a job or internship or any new activity. Is this common? What can I do to minimize the pain so I can be productive for the rest of the day?

As soon as I get home or sometimes as I'm driving, I get a headache. And the only thing that seems to help is sleeping the day off. Any over the counter meds that work on this type of headache? Quickly??

Massage the muscle between your thumb and forefinger. Take deep breaths when you start to stress. Massage your feet, or have someone else do it. That should make you feel better.

I would recommend trying deep breathing excercises and meditation. Also, if you can apply slight pressure to one of your pressure points that is located on the "web" between your thumb and your forefinger. You can even do this one yourself (I have done it and it works- as long as the headache is not too bad) Use your other hand to squeeze that area as hard as you can stand for as long as you can stand. Your headache will go away. I also find that taking a hot bath at night while listening to relaxing instrumental or jazz music really reduces the number of headaches I have. If I had to recommend an over the counter I would say excedrin was the only one that worked for me. The only drawback to excedrin is that it has caffeine and will keep you awake, so this may not be the most feasible option after a long day at work. Also, try drinking hot tea with honey and orange either before or after a long day. Find out what your stress triggers are and try to relax yourself when you find the stress building up. Take a few minutes and take a walk, or go into the bathroom at work and do some deep breathing.

It seems that your headaches are stress related. If this is the problem then you could try so prevent the headaches with some relaxation techniques you could find on line. The headaches could be from eye strain at work and while driving. I would have my eyes checked. There are some good over the counter medications that are labeled for Migraines, these work well for headaches. Make sure to read the label and do not take if you have a medical condition as stated on the bottle. If these headaches interfere with your daily activities you should definitely see your MD.

i get stress headaches all the time. i work in the IT field and it seems every day i have a headache. excedrine migrane or excedrine tension headache are really good meds. you may also want to have your sight checked. i have a sensitivity to light, when i drive in the morninging the sun is in my face and that is a auto migrane or really bright lights at night, im a grave shift worker so that doesn't help....lol. limit your caffee intake, and sugar during the day when you come off of the "buzz" that can trigger one or try soothing music or think of something your looking foward to that my help ease the pain. or try to busy your self with something else that usualy helps me. Also lack of sleep can trigger a migrane or headache. you may want to talk to your doc i have prescription maxalt for the times the excedrine doesn't help, you may need something stronger if over the counter meds dont help. if you have to go over the recommended dosage to releive your pain you definaly need to see the doc.

This might sound strange, but I have found that Midol works better than anything, take it as soon as you feel one coming on, it relaxes you and relieves pain, HOPE IT WORKS!

Make sure you drink plenty of water. Do not skip meals. Had your eyes checked lately? Some people get them when shopping, because of eye strain.
