Having a similar issue, have you ever considered writing a letter. I start by addressing it the particular person that I want to convey my feelings to. It may never get to them but when I write it, it makes it easier to practice what I want to say. Alot of times when I try to express my feelings before I write a practice letter, I get flustered or embarrassed and never get everything off my chest that I initially wanted. I got this advise from my therapist and it works for me. It's easier to write a letter because your alone and there is expectation or pressure to speak and your emotions aren't as high as when you have the person in front of you

This is really a very serious situation. If you were having chest pains or numbness in your left hand, you'd tell someone without thought. What you're experiencing is very real and could be as serious. Our society & culture have stigmatized all issues of mental health.

You say it's difficult to communicate with your feelings with your friends and loved ones. Perhaps you can start by sharing this with the one person you feel you can most trust and might have the best suggestions for resources that can offer you help.

If you are working at a job other than self-employment, your employer may have an EAP (employee assistance program) which can get you in touch with a counselor. If you have insurance, your program may offer some mental health couceling.

As you describe it, this is a serious situation but it can be relived. Please reach out to someone. I wish you all the luck! You deserve to have happiness in your life.

As a person who personally has clinical depression, the best advice I could give you would be this. Most of our family members can not understand how it feels to suffer with depression. They think if you just think about the good things in life you will be OK. That does not work for people with a chemical imbalance of the brain. Seek provisional help. There are lots of mental health facilities that will help you based on your income. Even if you don't have the money to pay for the therapy, they can still help you. Don't be afraid to seek them out. Trust me it has literally saved my life. Bless you,and You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

It is good to vent on here with the cover of anonymity but your real friends should be there for you if you need them too. Perhaps pick your best friend and invite them around and have a talk letting your guard down and being transparent. Not knowing what you are depressed about makes it difficult to be more specific but at least you are doing something now. Hang in there.

Next time someone close to you asks "how are you" in that off-hand, casual way that expects nothing more than "oh, fine," tell them the truth.

I mean it. If they are going to use the phrase, they need to accept the karma of occasionally getting a TRUE answer!

But I would also recommend you get some St. John's Wort. I call it my good faith effort to have a good attitude.

Ask for help. Don't let ego or shame enable you to hide these feelings. They will create consequences in all areas of your life.
The longer you hide (or wear the mask) the longer the pain will be there.
You have recognized a problem-now work on the solution!
And grow.

A lot of people go thru this.....you are not alone.

Depression is a hard thing to speak about. You fear being seen as weak. First you must stop pretending. Speak of your feelings openly and do not fear judgment. Talk to those that will listen. If you need to speak to an unknown person. Speak to me.
It is important not to hide your feelings from others or worse, try to hide your feelings from yourself. Depression is lack of faith in yourself. Fear of feelings you cant understand and fear that you can not trust yourself or those around you.

Live in an easy way.Donot put stress on yourself to pretend the feelings. There will be no need to explain to those who cannot observe your state of mind and there is be no need to explain to those who can observe your state of mind.
TRY to help those who are in depression, by observing not asking. You will get the reward. Put it in practical.

I think it's not about "them," it's about you. You got to trust someone and even if you get disappointed, there's still some other person out there...life is not perfect and I wouldn't suppose you are expecting a perfect life.
