A kidney stone is a hard mass developed from crystals that separate from the urine and build up on the inner surfaces of the kidney. Normally, urine contains chemicals that prevent or inhibit the crystals from forming. These inhibitors do not seem to work for everyone, however, so some people form stones. If the crystals remain tiny enough, they will travel through the urinary tract and pass out of the body in the urine without being noticed.

Kidney stones, also known as nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis or renal calculi, are solid concretions (crystal aggregations) of dissolved minerals in urine found inside the kidneys or ureters. They vary in size from as small as a grain of sand to as large as a grapefruit. Kidney stones typically leave the body in the urine stream; if they grow relatively large before passing (on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters), obstruction of a ureter and distention with urine can cause severe pain most commonly felt in the flank, lower abdomen and groin. Such pain, called renal colic, often comes in waves and can be particularly severe. Nausea is associated with this particular pain primarily due to the embyrological association of the kidneys and the intestinal tract. Recurrence rates are estimated at about 10% per year. Kidney stones are totally unrelated to gallstones.

Good morning, kidney stones are nothing but a mass of waste material that is not digestable.(eg:if u eat seeds of tomato it will not digest and they combine to form stone like structure.)the chemical which is present on our stomach(i.e HCL)will not reacte with some materials which we are eating that materials if we take it will form like stones.
The main important point is the stones occupy the place in kidneys which cause danger to our urinary system.
NOTE:to avoid this have a habit of DRINKING more WATER quantity.

They are horrible....

Reason behind them being developed is (Salt)...

They reside in the kidney of course; since kidneys refine blood in the body.

Drink lots of Water (or beer), and make sure they are disposed out of your system; otherwise you will suffer in the long run.

Seeking medical attention is a priority once you doubt you have stones.

Last thing you need to have is KIDNEY FAILURE, which will result in KIDNEY WASHING, and you need not to try that at all...

Gentleman,
STONE ?
How, What, Then, next is already answered on this page excellently by so many wise answers,
So, what NEXT? Herbals? Medicines? Surgery?

Only an 'medical scan' can cofirm the existence of a CALCULI - Stone as the reasons of the PAIN in kidany may be due to many other problems
If confirmed a CALCULI ? Next?
It is known that a calculi with more than size of 7mm is hard to flush out naturally by heavy water intake however it varies to every patient
Heavy intake of pure filtered water intake and a immediate full stop to some green leaves, tomatoes, etc etc maybe helpful too,
