Ok i think the stupidest thing happened. Target sent a letter to my mom saying that she was denied more credit to TARGET! out of places..and to check her credit to see if there was an error or why they denied her the extra credit on her card...If she was to pay off all her debts and things that were written of on her credit report..would those debts go away on her credit report..and would negotiating with the companys she owes money wise... fix her credit..she tells me of how she could buy a car with a credit card..but now her credit is all screwed up because of stupid stores like macys and burdines..and what is the highest possible credit score..thanks..i am looking foward to ur answers!

Well we don't have all the facts but it sounds like she has large outstanding balances with department stores. People should stay away from those cards, they are not necessary and the interest is usually very high. Of course the debts would go away on her credit report if she paid them off. Companies considering credit are looking at a totality of someone's economic situation, income compared to debt, so they can assess the chances of them defaulting. When they see high balances elsewhere, they see problems on the horizen.

Use the denial letter to get the three credit reports (Equifax, Experian and Transunion) to review what problems exist before trying to battle them. Negotiating with creditors doesn't "fix" your credit. Get the reports and see what problems exist before trying to challenge them. It could be a simple clerical error by data entry. Get the facts!!!
