The best thing you can do is to gargle with sea salt dissolved in warm water. Be sure to gargle good and get it way in the back of your throat. Do this every 3 or 4 hours and don't drink anything for a few minutes after you gargle. This will ease the pain, swelling and redness and help it heal much faster.

The treatment of pharyngitis/sore throat will vary according to the cause.
* Iodine compounds sold as Betadine or TCP can be gargled to shorten the duration of the infection.[citation needed] These compounds are effective anti-viral agents.
* Antibiotics are only helpful when a bacterial infection is the cause of the sore throat. For viral sore throats, antibiotics have been shown to only affect the degree of pain by day 4 and shorten the average natural duration by 16 hours overall (14 people need be treated for a week to reduce the duration by one day)

Lets see...how long has that sire throat been there?
Have you already tried home or over the counter remedies like antiinflamatory drugs, expectorating tablets or syryps?
If it has been there more than two weeks, do not wait any longer,....You need your larynx (vocal cords) checked.
This as you know is called laryngoscopy. to determine wheter its is only inflamation or you have a small benign polyp etc.
Other procedures and remedies without that, are pure guesswork.
I am sure you will do OK, however, I dont perceive your problem as a simple #take this pills or inhalant".
Better to check this painful swelling by the book,
Yours

Gargle with warm salt water. Then gargle with Listerine. Then take 2 Tylenol. Lastly, suck on a lozenge or cough drop. If it gets worse or lasts more than a few days, see the doctor.

Try eating a spoonful of pure honey or golden syrup.
If you do not like honey that much, then put a spoonful into a small sized glass of warm/hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice.
Also, try gargling alot with salty water. It's nasty, but helps kill bacteria.

Here are a few tips to get rid of the common sore throat:
Eat garlic, yes, if you've read any of the other cures on this website you'll find that garlic is the leading treatment to many problems. It is because Garlic contains a antiviral and antibacterial agent. So eat your garlic, it's good for you. You can also get garlic pills, but I prefer the fresh garlic.
Now here is a little drink that will help sooth a sore throat. Add lemon juice (from one lemon) some honey, to a glass of hot water. You'll feel a lot better instantly. I actually like to do this, but I will put the lemon and honey in a chamomile tea.
Gargle with warm salt water.
Once you get rid of the sore throat, get rid of your toothbrush, it may give you the sore throat again, and you don't want to get it back, so time to go to the drugstore and get a new one.
