I am not gonna say that microwave ovens are environmentally friendly, but they are an added source of electromagnetic radiation in your house.

Microwaves don't harm the environment. Despite what many people may think, microwaves do not actually 'nuke' the food you cook in them. It is true that they do emit low levels of background radiation, but those levels are no more than is emitted by your television set or your computer. In fact, they're actually lower.
A microwave works by heating up all of the water molecules in food, which is why you aren't supposed to put metal and other objects that are liquid-free in them. So as far as microwaves go, no they don't harm the environment. If you really wanted to be technical and go back to the power plant that supplies the power for your microwave and say that /it/ harms the environment...well then you're just being an annoying little hippie and you should go chain yourself to a bus or something and stop annoying the Range Rover factories.

Are cars safe for us? is our reliance on fossil fuels safe? is electricity safe? Are out eating patterns safe for us? Our use of plastics that take 2000 years to disinigrate safe? Is medicine and science safe? Well population sky rocketed and know we see our foot print a little bigger on this earth maybe we should be hunters and gathers again and the world wouldnt be decaying and polpulation would lower due to survival of the fittest and we all be safer. So no microwaves arent really that good for us on a level of civilization an personal use. But what else can thaw a 2 pound steak in 3 miniuts.

Everything must be used accordingwise to the instructions given or told by the seller. Dont do a mistake with it and blame the seller or the product. Nothing wrong in using a microwave. If it is gone too old replace it.

There are many other things which are much more harmful than using microwave but we use them for our convenience. If pollution is done under the prescribed limit then its all right, but if crosses the limit then we can never achieve sustainable development.
