I totally agree with you!!! When I was growing up I was a girl in an all boy neighborhood. & was always out playing w/ the boys my parents & other kids @ school thought I must be doing something else w/ them but I wasn't. Still to this day I'm VERY good friends w/ some of my boyfrinds friends & nothing else is going on. I think it stems back to the stereotype that a man w/ many chick friends is a stud & vice versa the girl is a whore. you go on & have all your guy friends, I think a person should befriend whomever they want & not be forced to choose on the basis of sexual origin.

There are situations when it would be inappropriate...
Perhaps, if it is the individual stating you can't "just be their friend"... what they are trying to tell you is that they feel more than friendship and to have you around constantly reminding them that you aren't interested in them in the same way is like pouring salt in a wound...
Other times... If the individual is a previous love interest and you have moved on to another relationship. Let it go and move on... It's not fair to your new partner to have your "ex-lover" as a best friend... Don't give him reason to have doubt. It's not just an issue of trust... There is a history you share with that individual, that your new partner doesn't share... Old feelings do tend to creep back occasionally... If you have a spat with your new beau and you run off to talk to the old one/friend... of course he will feel threatened... It's just not wise....
Last, but not least... friendships between opposite sexes lead to casualness... You joke around... harmless flirting... guard get down... things happen... friendships or relationships are torn apart.
You will do what you want to do... Just tread lightly and try to be understanding of the other hearts that may be falling around you.

I've only had one really really good friendship with a girl. She was my best friend from age 3 - 12. Then she moved. Every other friendship I've had with a girl one of us ended up developing stronger feelings and our friendship was either ruined or turned into a dating relationship. Now I stay away from friendships with girl unless I can see myself dating her. Currently I have only a few girls I would consider friends, but we are hardly that. It's really I see them because they're my buddies' gfs, and I see them a lot. Girls are kept on a very low friend level unless I want something more to develop.

Because it's true
You may think they won't want you for sex but if your even remotely attractive trust me they have thought about you in that way and would do you if they had the chance.

because most girls think that we can only be friends with a guy if we like them in other ways and usually they are jelouse because of your friendship with them,on the other hand alot of guys can be your friend but then they start to build feelings for you and just dont tell you but you know by how they act when you get interested in someone else,

they say that guys and girls cant just be friends when in fact you can. the thing is they say that at one point in time, you are going to either think sexually about that person or you are going to think about being with that person. i have plenty of friend girls but i have my wife. my friend girls are just my friends and nothing else

that usually is said because of sex... if one or two in the friendship are not virgins then attraction in a sexual way is gonna build and it's gonna cause one or both people to sleep together and as the friendship builds it's gonna cause them to be intimate with each other in the emotional sense and pretty soon their gonna possibly fall for each other :) :) :)

because *they* are missing something within them that prevents them from being able to just be friends with someone of the opposite sex
