She came in a dream and said, "You don't get it. It's not about being nice. You are your own vessel...." She left right after the statement and did not explain.... She was an exceptional human being and so intelligent but what does it mean?

It is only two days until the one year mark of her untimely death.

I think she means you should just be how you are, that you don't need to try outwardly to act differently.

In the bible, we are referred to as vessels, meant to contain God, but often people fill themselves with other things - money, fame, entertainment, etc etc.

A vessel can either be a means of transport (like a boat) or a container (such as a cup for water). Either way, it seems to me that "you are your own vessel" means "you are in charge of your own life." In the first angle, if you're your own boat, you need to be the one piloting yourself, the one making choices about what direction you will go, etc. -- it's not like someone else can do it for you. In the second angle, if you're your own cup, that might mean you don't need other people to fill you up or slake your thirst; you can fill yourself up, and be what you need.

Does that help?

As you begin to drift into sleep, calmly suggest to yourself that you will meet your friend in your dreams...ask your friend what she meant.

I believe that she was telling you that you make your own reality...this is the truth, and your friend knows it now. You have a wonderful opportunity here. Your friend wants to communicate with you.

I don't mean to speak ill of the dead, and I'm so sorry for your loss but her statement really doesn't make sense; at least not in the context she used it.

She wasn't telling you to be "mean." Instead, she was telling you to stop being a doormat.
