a body cavity has an openning to the outside but a coelome does not. The digestive tract, the lungs, the vagina, etc are all body cavities. The region between the gut of a worm and its outer surface is a coelome (assuming we are not talking about acoelomate worms). confusion comes in when you talk about the abdominal cavity or thoracsic cavity. I think technically these are coelomes if you look at the space between the cavity and the body.
