I like to try various scents/methods.
I also use a sound/light machine to create a 'better' (IMO) Brainwave Entrainment effect
Of course, if You have any seizure-related history, and are photo-sensitive in that regard, DO NOT use the sound/flashing-light/s types of things.

I would say dried herbs and naturally scented candles. Much of the incense being sold today on the market has nasty chemicals in it and are only made to mimic natural scents, although there are some that aren't made that way. Always best to go with as natural a choice as possible.

some people might have the best effects with one. .... or the other. or the other.. ... or nothing.
if your trying to actually meditate and such, then its best to try each one and see what works for you.
if its trying to have some sort of silly idea about something involving the burning-things having some brain-chemistry type effect or something.... well, others it works better to not have anything at all.
as a bottom line, its not consistent.
