It's common courtesy because common people believed in religion until recently.

From an atheistic perspective its just sentimentality. Old people don't produce, and they don't reproduce. As animals (which is all they are) they are biologically useless, and might as well let them go, or make them go so they stop using rescources better used on those who perpetuate the species and contribute more than they take from society.

I think most atheist aren't really atheists at all, they're just like bushmen having a crisis of faith. They hurl all kinds of blasphemies at their idol hoping it will respond so they can believe again.

"Right" and "Wrong" are human constructs, and leftover vestigial terms from a time when people had faith in a Judge of such things. What is the source of labeling this "right" or that "wrong" without a Divine Judge. There isn't. It's just what strikes humans as distasteful. There is only behavior. Right and Wrong are obvious myths.Myths constructed by the weak to blackmail the powerful with threats of hell so they wouldn't be cast aside as useless.

Stop being an arrogant marmoset. You're an animal, nothing else. You're a clever ape. If it's to your benefit somehow to care for the aged, do it. If it's not, why do it?Sentimentality is the last retreat of an irrational mind.

Tell me where my logic fails.

Among a few cultures, they have a barbaric practice of putting old men out in the snow when they become too much to keep along with the tribe.
