Here are a few essentials to effective flirting:
1. Eye contact - Not stalker staring, but let your eyes smile.
2. Smile - It increases your face value and lets the guy know you're pleased with what you see.
3. Pay attention - If you've reached the stage of talking to him, turn 100% of your attention to him. He'll feel like he's the only guy in the room, and will definitely get the idea that you dig him.
4. Interest - Ask him questions about him and what he likes, hobbies, etc. Be friendly and engaging, but don't be like "20 questions cuz I want a husband" kind of friendly. Just take a genuine interest in him.
5. Touching - If you're comfortable with this, sprinkle your conversation with affectionate touches and pats on the hand or arm. Don't hang on him, as that will give him the idea that you're clingy. But several well-timed/placed touches will let him know that you want to be close to him, but aren't a 5-alarm clinger.
6. Feed him - This is a bit more advanced and should only be tried by experienced professionals! lol Just kidding. But don't do this on a first date or when you're first getting to know him. If you're already past the awkward first stages and are starting to get comfortable with each other, and you just want to take it to the next level, spooning a bite of your favorite dessert or placing an hors d'ouvre into his mouth from your own hand can be a very sexy thing to do that speaks volumes of your confidence, and your desire to be closer to him.

Actually flirting is quite different to being serious about someone. A flirt is someone who literally flirts with all the guys. If you are seriously interested though you will often unconsciously do things like:
smile
play with your hair a little
mirror their movements
touch them gently and briefly on the arm
make eye contact
have a good fun conversation
laugh at their jokes

Putting on lipstick in public,
dangling a sandal from a crossed leg,
finger combing hair and flipping it,
