I'm looking for a cute, and permenantely small dog. I want one of those dogs that's small and will not grow. Also, one that is good IN the home.

Go to the shelter, or adopt a small adult dog from a rescue organization. Try craigslist. I got a wonderful dog from someone, who is small, housetrained and very calm.

The dachshund is a short-legged long-bodied breed affectionately referred to as a “wiener dog”. (The nickname gained notoriety after an American artist drew a dachshund in a hot dog bun in the early 20th century.) This breed is very popular and is typically within the top 10 most loved breeds. Playful but stubborn, the “doxie” is a member of the hound breeds.
They love dog doors.

Yorkshire Terriers are cool! I just bought one at the mall. They only grow up to 7 pounds. They dont shed at all. They are very loving and love to lick your face every time you carry it. Mine loves to be carried. His poo is only 3 in. long. I have a puppy. The puppy face is cute. But when its an adult the hair goes to the floor,(which isnt very cute). But i gave it the "puppy cut". You just tell the groomer to give it the "puppy cut" and it looks exactly like the newborn yorkies. Actually they look cuter than ever! Mine lives inside the house because it's so small that we are afraid it will get blown away or something. They grow up to 5 in. only. Well........good luck with your future yorkshire terrier! :)

look on petfinder.com there you will find many dogs that you are describing in your area from shelters and rescues. as for the dog being good in your home, well that's up to you. research the breed of dog before you get it. find out as much about the breed as you can. be prepared when you bring dog home. have food, crate, toys, leash, collar, etc...take the dog to a vet and do what the vet says as far as vaccines and vet care. find a trainer, this will help you bond, the dog to build confidence and respect you as leader and listen to you. the training will help you prevent unwanted behavoirs and teach you how to deal with them if they should come up. set a schedule before the dog gets home and put them on that schedule. consistancy is the key combined with love affection and a firm hand to having a great dog. if the dog learns what is expected and what and when to expect something it knows it can depend on you and when you do vary from the schedule the dog will not flip out, it knows you will provide. good luck and YAY for you for researching before you bring a dog home.

Get a Pomeranian. They are small, cute, clever and very loving. i have one and he is just so beautiful. They are not outside dogs but they do enjoy a walk. You do need to groom them carefully as they can get very matted fur.
