There is risk associated with any sport, particularly a martial art. Younger people that are still developing can have problems if too much joint manipulation is done on a regular basis, but most instructors are well aware of it and don't teach dangerous moves to the youth.

I once attended a presentation about Aikido. It was actually very impressing. I do not think it's dangerous at all. Aikido concentrates on using the least amount of energy needed for self defence in a way that makes your opponent lose him balance. It's very interesting to learn. You don't need a lot of strength for that. You learn the important tricks for self defence. Go ahead and learn it. Good Luck =>

No, in fact it places a lot of emphasis on the safety of both the practitioner and the opponent.

the main focus of Aikido is not to maim, injure or kill the opponent, but merely hold them or keep them from causing further trouble.

The first emphasis is to the practitioner to survive the outcome of an encounter, and the second to the opponent due to it's use of joint locks and manipulation for pain compliance and redirecting the opponent's attack against them as well as the throwing aspect of the discipline

they will teach you how to properly perform a breakfall in order to avoid injury, but like any physical activity, there is a very good likelyhood of injury.

No. Aikido is mostly defense, not offense. Plus, they require a stict code of obedience. It's a great martial art.

It can be depending on the instructor. You get thrown to the ground a lot & if you don't fall properly, you can get injured. A good instructor will make sure that you know how to fall properly.
