Leave now. If your not a addict then you can't understand or help him. You also can't help him until he decides that he wants help and at that time he can find it on his own. If he just says he needs help then he is scaming you. Run like hell.

i've known many alcoholics. some who have been sober 30+ years, others 10-ish, one 70 days, and another who cant even go 2 weeks. it all comes down to this: does he realize and acknowledge that he has a problem? does he REALLY want to change? if the answers to both are yes, then there is hope. you cannot help someone who does not want to be helped, because no matter what program you make him go to, no matter how long he spends in detox and then clean, once nobody is watching him or something goes wrong or he has a bad day, then he will go back to the alcoholism.

alcoholism is not only a disease that affects the person, but it also harms those around him. so my advice would be, give him an ultimatum. make him go to a rehab/detox center that is not even in the same state as you. it's hard work, but he's gonna have to change his life and friends, he doesn't need to be around anyone who does drink, at least for the first few months. see if he changes, but make sure to keep a close eye on him. if he goes back to alcohol, it's the best move for you to move on. don't let him drink YOUR life away. best of luck to you

My best friend's husband is an alcoholic. They did an intervention when he was 21, sent him to rehab then AA. Sadly, he is now 33 and has been drinking heavily for years. He was recently arrested for DUI.

The guy has to go for himself. You should really get out of the relationship and let him come find you if/when he is sober, and has been for a while. Alcoholics cause so much pain. Please think of yourself first and get out while you can.

And remember, with alcoholics, there's no in-between. Either they drink or they don't. My friend lives with the "but he doesn't drink as much as he used to" excuse. It's very sad.

Don't try to change him. tell him to stop drinking or you will leave. If he doesn't stop you must leave. Otherwise your word won't be good and you'll become part of the problem.

Why are you with him? If he needs help, he should want to be helped. You cannot help people who do not want to be helped.
