First of all, I gave you a "thumbs up" for this question. It is a good one!
I think scientists do humanity the most good by ignoring the prevailing religious beliefs of the masses. How else can they arrive at the truth? The job of a scientist is to analyze the facts of nature, produce workable theories, and "let the chips fall where they may."

No. Scientists need to realize that there is a war of ideas going and specifically start targetting the various holy texts to disprove any part of them they can. There needs to be an active effort to show how religions started, developed, evolved, and came to be, both on the psychological, sociological, and neurological levels, with an eye towards the archeology needed to demonstrate these things.
It's time for religion to die so the human race can get on with making the world a better place instead of all this fighting over who's right and who's wrong when every religion is wrong.

many scientists are very religious people. no matter what the fundamentalists say, the two are not exclusive.
it would be beneficial to mankind if we all treated each other with respect.

Yes. Scientists do not claim there is NO God. Don't confuse scientists with political atheists who can be very disrespectful the religious. However, some religious people have stupid ideas such as Creationism. In that case, scientists can only do what anyone in their position would do... prove them wrong, justify their research, and be confident of their findings.

Real empirical science does not have anything to do with religious beliefs. Science is about stating a hypothesis, and then testing a sample to see if the hypothesis holds water.
Science explains how things in our environment work by providing empirical evidence that we can all see, hear, taste, and feel. It explains a cause and its effect in life. Such research should always be unbiased and have nothing whatsoever to do with religious beliefs.

I don't think so. What scientists do is just their job. Well, in my opinion, they are not disrespecting any religious belief maybe, just making people confused on what to believe in.
It's still in us whether we want to believe this or that. Whether we believe that God made the world or the world came from nebulae. After all, it doesn't really matter as long as we live.
I mean, they just try to seek answers to their questions because sometimes religion is unbelievable. I think I'll let them be.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Look at what God says about all mankind:
[3:190-191] Verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day - there are indeed signs for men of understanding; Men who remember Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the creation of the heavens and the earth (with the thought) "Our Lord! Not for nothing have You created (all) this. Glory to You! Give us salvation from the suffering of the Fire."
[29:20] Say: Travel through the earth and see how Allah originated creation; so will Allah produce the second creation (of the Afterlife): for Allah has power over all things.
[16:8] ...and He creates other things beyond your knowledge...
[50:38] And We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in six days, and nothing touched us of weariness.
[76:1] Has there not been over Man a long period of Time when he was not yet a thing thought of?
[70:4] The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a Day the space whereof is (as) fifty thousand years.
[21:33] It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon: all swim along, each in its rounded course.
[51:47] And the heavens We did create with Our Hands, and We do cause it to expand.
[42:29] And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through both of them...
[45:3] Verily, in the heavens and the earth are signs for those who believe.
[25:53] It is He who has caused to mix freely the two great bodies of water, this one pleasant-tasting and sweet and this one salty and bitter, and He made between them a barrier and a forbidding ban.
[49:13] O mankind! We created you from a male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other. Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him...
[41:39] "...For He (Allah) has power over all things."
[3:47] "...when He has decreed a matter, He only says to it, 'Be', and it is."
[21:30] ...And We made every living thing from water...
[24:45] And Allah has created every animal from water...
[16:8] ...and He creates other things beyond your knowledge...
[24:45[41:53] Soon will We show them Our Signs in the (farthest) horizons, and within themselves, until it becomes manifest to them that it is the Truth...
] ...Allah creates what He wills...
[75:37-38] Was he (man) not a drop of semen emitted? Then he did become something leech-like which clings...
[76:2] We created the human from a drop which is a mixture...
[75:37] Was he (man) not a drop of semen emitted?
021.030 Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then We parted them, and we made every living thing of water? Will they not then believe?
The Qur’an was revealed in the seventh century. Many statements pertaining to physical phenomena are dispersed throughout the Qur’an. These are there in the Qur’an to draw the attention of people to the wonders of Allah’s creation. Any other seventh century book making statements about the physical universe would surely contain mistakes. Our knowledge of physical sciences in the twentieth century is far advanced beyond the imagination of people living the seventh century.
What will come as a surprise to many people is that of all the numerous statements about scientific matters found in the Qur’an, not one of those have proved contrary to the established facts of science. On the other hand, many of those statements have already been verified by modern scientific studies, and we confidently expect that as various fields of knowledge advance, other Quranic statements will likewise prove true.
This a prove not only against scientists, but also other people.

If in respectful you mean ignoring or disregarding any physical evidence that find that contradicts someones religious beliefs, the answer is absolutely not. Scientists should investigate the world around them as it is, not as other people want to see it.

Why should they be respectful towards religious belief? If they did that, there would be countless discoveries lost in the world. So, no, it would not be more beneficial.
What makes religion a topic that should be respected anyway? It's not like those who are religious respect other, practical beliefs.
