The Transfiguration was a foretaste of the Kingdom.

For a moment Jesus discloses his divine glory, confirming Peter's confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Jesus also reveals that he will have to go by the way of the cross at Jerusalem in order to "enter into his glory".

The Byzantine Liturgy of the Feast of the Transfiguration includes this beautiful prayer:

You were transfigured on the mountain, and your disciples, as much as they were capable of it, beheld your glory, O Christ our God, so that when they should see you crucified they would understand that your Passion was voluntary, and proclaim to the world that you truly are the splendor of the Father.

With love in Christ.

The transfiguration of Jesus
- Matthew 17:1-6
- Mark 9:1-8
- Luke 9:28-36

This is an important event in the life of Jesus. Moses and Elijah both appeared during the transfiguration. Why was it Moses and Elijah? The bible did not tell us, but could it be that Moses represented the Law and Elijah represented the prophets. One died and the other lived.

But why did they have to appear during the transfiguration and what did they talk to Jesus?
I believed that they came to encourage Jesus, because they already knew the outcome and both of them already have been there. (Luke 9:31)

Then finally God spoke and said "This is my beloved son, hear Him"

The Transfiguration Of Jesus tells us that the beloved son of God came to fulfilled the law and the prophets. Because the law and the prophets have to be fulfilled. Moses and Elijah are witnesses that Jesus truly is the son of God.

Transformation like a Caterpillar to a butterfly is a symbol for basically changing your life. It also so means a fairly complete change. Jesus was about transformation from being a mortal human to being an immortal spirit after life on Earth.
Jesus had faith, but on the cross just before he gives up the spirit of life on earth he asks the question, "Why hast you (you being his father or God) why hast you forsaken me?" In the end, humans give in to the notion of death because of pain or fear and they can not hold on to the belief that he or she knows to be true. In other words, "death always catches us flat footed" because we are never really ready for death. But, death is the beginning of Transformation to rebirth and a new life.
The transformation of Jesus from a human to a spirit and Son of God is a great sacrifice that all humans must go through, but also all humans transform into a new life without the problems of life on earth.
So the meaning is that all humans are equal when it comes to life and death.
It is as if we were dead and then we are born. We live our life and then we die again. We are then spirit and go on to our next life until our journey is complete.
We can not have all the answers. We can have faith. And, faith is a form of knowing what is true without need for knowing everything. We can not prove God, but we know of God or we know God and trust the rest to him or her. Good Question

His idea of himself changed. This must happen for anybody who is working out his own redemption, so to speak. Your self-concept is 'redeemed',(transformed).
