I think that it might be good because I am sure that the politicians in Washington would make sure it was the right time for war if their kids might die.....

Even if their kids were drafted they'd just get sweet desk jobs here in the U.S. instead of being deployed to a war zone.

As long as the military is "all volunteer" there will never be an anti-war movement on the level that was seen during Viet Nam. If a draft was instituted and the govt was pulling kids out of classrooms to go to war there would be change. That is why it will never happen. The last thing the govt wants is change because this time we would bring them down for good.

I don't think it would be a good idea. I don't want the military guys I know fighting next to someone who doesn't want to be there. They won't fight as hard, or as well, putting the military men and women at risk. It may have worked in the past, but we don't live in the past. There are too many people that would get drafted that are against the war in Iraq.

Since politican's children make up such a miniscle percentage of our country's draft age adults, it would be ridiculous to assert that politicans would even worry about a draft affecting their children. And even if their children were drafted, they almost certainly wouldn't go anywhere.
We live in a different day and age and a draft won't "fly" in our country; however, something needs to change in Iraq because it's unimaginable to believe that the amount of troops expected by our administration can be sustained or increased.

Not unless absolutely necessary. A draft would result in people being in the military who don't want to be there. A good number of those would come complete with bad attitudes, and their presence would harm the military more than help it.

NO. Why should people serve when they don't want to?
Forcing people to serve so they can kill or be killed? Who says the cause is always justified? Why should we pay with our lives for causes we don't belive in?

Altough military preparation is usually good. War is destructive. and while there should be soldiers to protect the country/freedom should people have the ultimate Choice?

That is why the draft was removed.

I am for a draft if there are not exemption or deferments. Men and women 18-42 unless disabled, then the disabled could also perform support tasks depending on their disability. Only if the military calls for it!

I think the draft is a good idea. There are too many lifer puke types in today's military whose first loyalty is to the military and not our country. Draftees bring a healthy disrespect and questioning of authority that is sadly lacking with today's mercenaries.

We won WW2 with conscripts and volunteers.

We won every major battle in Vietnam with volunteers and conscripts.

Let's do it, baby!

No!! There are enough useless losers who managed to squeeze thru the cracks as it is. The military does not need unwilling and unable bodies weighing it down.
