I have been trying to box train him for over a month now. I have 2 adult cats and 2 liter boxes. One box is for all of them and the second is just for the kitten yet he still refuses to use either one. Everytime I catch him going on the carpet, I put him in the bathroom where his liter box is and I leave him there for a couple of hours. I also set him in the box to show him where he is supposed to go. Someone, please help. If I can't get this resolved, I won't be able to keep him.

Cats are naturally clean creatures. If your cat is not using her litter box, it may be because:

Her litter is too dirty. This is the most common reason. Clean out her litter more often and see if this helps.

Stress. Perhaps your feline is anxious about a move, new furniture or carpeting, a new person or animal in the house ...

She is attracted to a previously soiled location. If your cat keeps returning to one spot, it may be a spot where another pet previously soiled. Make this spot less attractive to your pet by:

Put her food bowl there. Cats do not like to eliminate at the same place they eat.
Neutralize odour. A half and half solution of white vinegar and water will help to rid the area of any smell.
Cover the area with a plastic sheet. This will make it unpleasant to your kitty and discourage her from eliminating there.
Your kitty may not like her brand of litter. Cats can be finicky; if you have recently changed the type of litter used, change it back. If not, experiment with other brands until you find one that kitty likes.

Your cat may not know where her litter box is. Especially common with young kittens or after a move. Place the litter box in a clean, accessible, and relatively quiet location and show your cat where it is. You may want to put the box on the same floor as the cat to begin with.

Your cat is marking his territory. Male cats sometimes spray urine to mark their territory; this is yet another good reason to be sure you neuter your pet (neutered males are less likely to spray).

If your cat has always used her litter box and has recently started to "mess", consider taking her to the vet to rule out any medical conditions.

i hope this helps good luck and best wishes!

undesirable information...that's no longer possibly something you may instruct cats for 2 motives... First, the act of applying a clutter tray is one that the mummy teaches earlier the kittens circulate away her. If she become along with her mom for the 1st 8 weeks, then she could have picked up whichever technique the mummy had - if the mummy went outdoors then you definately must be grateful your cat has even have been given so some distance as applying the tray. the 2d reason is - your kitten could be attempting to coach that she thinks she is dominant on your place. families with dissimilar cats have a difficulty via fact the main dominant cat makes use of the clutter tray as a fashion of exhibiting the others he's in value. while they use the tray, they 'circulate' as close to to the suitable as they are able to, and easily supply it a skinny layer of conceal. This ends up of their scent being the overwhelming one, so different cats applying the tray understand who's boss. in case you reside in a multi-cat relatives I propose making an investment in yet another tray - this could motivate the cats to take possession of a tray each and each, so the kitten will possibly no longer attempt to be so dominant. If that's no longer the case, then this could be a prepare you're caught with. you ought to purchase a powder which could be sprinkled into the clutter to cut back scent, so it quite is not all undesirable.

don't force him to use it. cats tend to remember things negatively, and if his memory of a litter box is being pushed into it, he's not going to like it or want to use it. keep in a seperate room, away from the other cats with plenty of room for him. try different cat litters.

You need to kick it's rear end a few times to get his attention.
