We don't understand Islam because we don't make the effort to try to understand it.

Because we don't read about it; live it or are truly surrounded by it. Only then will we really know

Watch the History Channel Show/ DVD called "A History of God"; it dealt almost entirely with Islam, and was very interesting. What I took away from it was: Islam believes that Jesus Christ existed but was not the son of God. A man came along later called Mohammad and that is who they believe is the son of God. Mecca use to be only a crossroads where different "roads" intersected in the dessert and a settlement of merchants sprouted up there. Eventually a monotheistic temple was built there, which later was desecrated by people who worshiped several different Gods at the temple. Mohammad was the man who struck the pagans out of the temple and restored it to the one true God. Watch the movie; good stuff.

I'm not 100 percent sure as I'm not interested in man made religions.

But its similar to Catholics and Protestants.

It has something to do with the Mother of Mohamed.

Just a conflict within a conflict. Hence Manmade religion .

I dont accept they need to die, but need to understand the meaning of freedom first to accept each other in a long process and leave the rest of the world alone enforcing their only understanding and acceptance of a God.

No God would accept torture or killing in its name, that seems like the trademark of some fanatic sects, then I'm sorry but I would not like to believe in such a GOD, where will he lead me?
A place of dispear, fear, missery ?

To believe in a God is a choice not an ENFORCEMENT.

Not all of Islam is bad just gravely understood by some.
Its a pitty.

This is propaganda and fortunately not all Americans are falling for it. We don't need to understand Islam or it's sects (just like we don't really need to understand all the differences in the many faces of Christianity) to be able to understand that people are the same the world over. Some in every group are zealots, some are motivated by military or violence - but most of us are just normal people going to work and raising our kids and trying to make ends meet in an increasingly turbulent world. You know - going to the grocery store, changing diapers and laughing at the cute things our kids do.

We are all just people - it is only in the government's best interest to keep us hating islam and to keep us in the dark about the nature of the people in the middle east. I mean, who would take up arms against their neighbor or their counterparts around the world? But the scoundrels they talk about in the news - that's enough to keep men enlisting and going overseas. Remember propaganda folks? We all learned about it in school in relation to WWII and how the governments used it to warp the minds of their citizens against the enemy. We are supposed to learn from history, right?

Peace!

What's you point? The Sunnis & Shiites are at war. The dispute between them has been on and off since their prophet died and it doesn't look like ending any time soon whether Americans get it or not.

The thing Americans really need to learn is that that the Crusades are over.

1. It is a very old conflict that is petty, stupid, and uncivilized.
2. America has very little to do with the conflict, despite the anti-war crowd's criticism

Most people would rather believe stereotypes and generalizations, rather than searching for facts or actually speaking to a Muslim and asking about it.

this is like say all islamic people are bad, no they are not, just because a few people can't accept other religions than their own doesn't mean that all americans can't
