Negative, the root of all evil is selfishness. Regardless of religion war is based on a man's thoughts and feelings. It is the man that decides he is right and others are wrong. It is not religion that has created wars and strife, it is the person himself.

Definitely not. The world wouldn't be truly free.
"Would the world be more peaceful without free-speech?" Well yes it would but people wouldn't be free. In the same way, if there was no religion, people would be restricted and bound.

I don't think religion is the root of all evil, it's faith and faith-based fanaticism and intolerance. Get rid of those, and the world would be much better (although still not perfect).

Yes, it is one of the reasons.
Oil is a reason too.
Money is a reason too.
Scrap the above......... the main problem is man's quest to look great in the eyes of mankind alone.

I would like to believe that because I'm agnostic. However, there are people who only behave because of the fear of hell. There has to be adequate law enforcement to replace the consequences found in religions.

to be honest i dont think it would matter because in general people are ignorant and stupid. they would fine a ways to hate, fight and kill just the same without religion
but on the other hand most religions have a general "be kind to your neighbor" so maybe we would be worse off

but i am a firm believer that if people weren't fighting over who's god is better they would be fighting over something just as pointless ... don't you agree?
