I hear the antihistamine can dry up your milk supply, but that's not a problem because I am in the final stages of weaning. My son is 20 months old and we're both sick with a nasty cold. He's down to 1-2 feedings right before bedtime. Does anyone know if the other ingredients are safe for one dose while I'm still nursing?
(BTW it's midnight here, can't call a doctor at the moment)

OK, this was a bad idea, I guess. I was hoping KNEW something about this because they've asked a doctor before, or they are a doctor. instead I just got a bunch of opinions.
Bl!nd Poet: I did read the directions. It says: if nursing, ask a doctor before use. I understand that the medicine would pass through breastmilk, but it's usually so little that it would have little to no effect, especially since I 'm not nursing very often anymore, and my son is a toddler. Also, since my son is also sick, sometimes when medicine passes through the milk, it can help him feel better, too.
RebaK: Get your facts straight before you open your mouth. The American Pediatric Association recommends nursing AT LEAST until they are 12 months, and the World Health Oranization recommends nursing until they are AT LEAST 2 years old.
Anyway, I didn't end up taking the NyQuil, because I remembered I had a prescription for cough syrup from 2 months ago. Not as good as NyQuil, but it was docotr approved.

Actually, if you call your pediatrician's office, you should be able to leave a message to have someone call you back. The on call doc will be automatically paged and call you back, most likely.

But when in doubt, always err on the side of caution. It's been several years since I nursed, and I cannot remember what I was allowed to take. I know it was more than I could take when I was PREGNANT, but there were still restrictions.

Hope you both feel better soon! the only thing I know of that the doctors in Pittsburgh, Pa say is okay for pregnant or nursing moms is SUDAFED just the plain sudafed. You could also take tylenol for the aches. Good luck!

I always thought the active ingredient in NyQuil was the alcohol, I totally detest the stuff but my husband likes it. I recommend a warm beverage instead. Some hot tea with lemon.

No way. Nyquil has alcohol in it as far as I know. You should never take any medication without speaking with your doctor first.

the thing that is bad about it is that your passing it on to your son, so if you really want to take it then take the kind that is for kids, the dosage for adults is too strong for kids so really it is not safe for your baby, even with those few feedings, it will still be in tour system.

No. It has alcohol in it and would not be good for the baby. If you don't beleive me, call a 24 hour pharmacy.
