Just wondering on average. I got my first chihuahua today. I love him to death... I'm just trying to find out what to expect tonight. Also, I still need a name. I've been thinking Toby or Jasper. Any suggestions?

mine is 2 months old and he sleeps from about 10 pm to 5 am . which is like a human baby's schedule almost . he sleeps in his crate at night . but you must kind of play with him or her and wear them down somewhat before bedtime. and when you do put him or her in the crate make sure you have toys in there with them . good luck cause the first night is always the hardest.

the first night i got my chihuahua we put him in a crate that was enclosed on all sides except for a little door thing in the front...he hated it!...he wouldn't settle down and my dad had to put the cage (and him) in a different room...but a couple days later i got him a new cage and he enjoyed it...it had lots of room and he could see out all sides (like a normal dog crate) and he slept all night and loved it
just make sure that he has like a little bone to chew on or something like that to comfort him since he's not sleeping w/ his mommy and brothers/sisters to warm him...maybe a little towel would be good too and make sure it isn't cold for him
for my chihuahua i put a little bone and small towel for him to curl up w/ as if it were his mom and he seemed to like it...just beware he will think that the towel is his so don't expect to be getting it back!!
he will make some noise most likely because he wishes to be with you instead of all alone in some locked up thing!
but when you get up in the morning he'll be very excited to see you! he'll get used to the crate though in a few days
now my dog usually sleeps with either me or my sister but if we put him in the cage at night he will sleep all night soundly.

p.s. Toby and Jasper are adorable names! whatever you think fits his personality and colors and stuff like that! Try saying Toby to yourself when you look at your chichi and then say Jasper and see which you think sounds better and matches with your chichi!! goodluck

My family has two chihuahs and I used to babysit our newest one Mo. And he is about 6 months old now, but when we first got him he woke up about every hour!!! And he would whine and whine!!! Until you got up. I suggest that you put him in a box/carrier with newspaper, only make sure he CAN see you, and when he whines just give him a pet, and I reccomend the carrier cuz Mo peeed and pooped in my bed!!! And also if you roll over alot then you can squish him!Just if he sleeps beside you!!!
NAMES: Mo, Dre, TOBY, Tony, Tootsie, Oliver.....I suggest Toby over Jasper. Spencer!!!

Congrats on your new baby. Chihuahuas sleep about 8 hr at night. They will wake up a few times to potty. They will sleep a lot in the daytime while they are pups too. I used to have a chi named Tody so that gets my vote.

My last chiwowa ate all my pizza so i sold him he pounced on me at night and bit my croch numerous times they have a thing for meat you should name him mac
