Don't get any more tattoos. Awhile back, I heard from other Marines who are still in the Corps, that they're limiting the number of tattoos you can have anywhere in your body. There are some good former Marines who got out of the Corps in good standing (they got out way before 9-11 happened), but they can't re-enlist now because they have a bunch of tattoos all over. I'm not sure if they dropped the limit requirement now. Ask your recruiter about it. Also, racist tattoos and gang tattoos is a disqualifier. Marine Corps' office at MEPS usually have a photo album of tattoos that they check.

As a rule of thumb, the Marine Corps itself does not care if you have a tattoo or not. There are a few extremely rare exceptions to this but not something to worry overly much about. This is not the same thing as saying that the Marines will be so understanding.

If you walk into basic with a Marine tattoo be prepared to have your @$$ eaten alive. Before boot camp you are not a Marine. You are a wannabe. The odds are that your DIs will take that Marine tattoo as a personal affront and they will make your life a miserable steaming pile of slug $@#. If you already have a Marine tattoo then do your utmost not to draw any attention to it. The DI's are going to notice it eventually but the longer you can put that off the better. There is a silver line to this black cloud, though. All of that extra PT you are going to be doing is gonna put you in great shape.

when joining the military you are legally signing your body over to the government for hoiwever long your contract states. When you sign that contract you legally become government property. In simpler terms ( In any state) If you get a tattoo while you are in the marine corps and they find out that you got it while in the military. You will be charged with defamation of government property with a minimum 6 month jail sentence, and a $10,000 fine.

Note that this is considering that the guys above you are total jack@$$s. If you have one or get another one just try to conceal it until it heals, eventually it will end up in your medical records

they don't care about tattoos, just that you do your job regardless of whether you like it or not. but if you get a marine corps tattoo, don't do it until you graduate from basic because you aren't a marine until you finish basic and no marine likes someone to claim being a marine unless they are marines. you'll find that out if you have a marine tattoo and you are in basic. you'll catch every crap detail just to spite you.

Yes you can. You will need to get it approved for a waiver, which is really easy as long as it isnt gang related or racist or something along those lines. I hope it doesnt have anything to do with the USMC or your DI's will be on your a$$.

ok, i know that my husband, who is army, had to put a X on a box stating he had tattoos when he joined, i know cause i just found his inital enlistment papers yesterday! so, most likely, you won't have a problem, they don't care as long as it is vulgar.

if you really need a 100% answer, go call up your MEPS station, or your recruters office. they will tell you the correct answer.

I believe the military is limiting tattoos to those that are not visible while wearing clothing. Check with your recruiter for the STRAIGHT SKINNY.

You can't get any new tattoos while your in DEP waiting to ship out, but most pre-existing tattoos should be fine. As long as its nothing offensive I wouldn't worry.
