See a chiropractor, also try stretches, lay on your back and pull your knees to your chest. I go to a chiropractor when it gets really bad.

The Chiropractor that I go to has me using one of those large balls to exercise on. It feels so good to lay over it and stretch.
It pulls your legs down while you are on the top and helps that nerve. I wish they could kill mine I really do. Nothing hurts as bad as it does. Also when not using a heating pad try a product called bio-freeze. Its like wearing a heating pad. If you lay on your back put a pillow under your knees,if you lay on your side the use one
thick, between your knees. A hot bath or shower before bed helps. But the ball is the best. Oh make sure and get a non burst one. Best money I have spent on help in a long time.
Good Luck

Start by proper body alignment. Put a pillow between your knees when you sleep on your side. Knee and hip level with each other. Keep your spine straight and keep yourself under the warm covers. The heat will relax the muscles which will relax the pull on the spine which will relax the compression or pull of the nerves between spaces. This will also allow your spine to self adjust and relieve that compression on the sciatic nerve. If you twist your torso when you sleep, or sleep on your stomach, this is poor alignment. If you have arthritis, then use heat therapy with extreme caution.

If it's caused by a herniated disc pushing against your nerve try a combination of heating pad and ice pack on your lower back, switching between the two every 20 minutes.

Try out an anti-gravity or zero-gravity chair. It may offer immediate relief.

Ibuprofen will probably help some as it is an anti-inflammatory.

Go to a NUCCA chiropractor; sciatic nerve problems are the most common thing they treat and they are wonderful; Dr. Robert Goodman helped me so much, I am so grateful to him.
