So- let me get this staight- Jesus died on the cross- rose to heaven- then everyone forgot for 40 years- then one man (Saul) told everyone about him

There has been a powerful trend throughout the history of Christianity, Judaism and Islam to keep people ignorant, not ask questions and believe the current religious top dog. These religious leaders promote superstition and fear.
The biggest current fear is that science will fill in all the gaps in our knowledge, leaving God without a job. AND leaving religious leaders without jobs.

the Bible is probably the most factual record in existence. As for the science area, there are a lot of subjects that are considered to be controversial and plain out wrong by scientists who disagree with others scientists such as global warming being caused by humans, macro-evolution, the big bang theory, so it is not just Christians who may have different views on some of the science areas. The Bible does sometimes use parables to teach spiritual truth and those are often not correlated to real stories but if you mean Biblical accounts, then what story has been proven false and by who? I think your in very deep water here.

Addemdum: Jesus appeared to Saul who was given the new name of Paul shortly after Jesus died and arose. This explains why Saul went from persecuting the early churches to being a follower of Christ. I don't know where you got the 40 year after date it is not accurate since Paul wrote various New testament books that make up about 1/3 of it and they were certainly not all written 40yrs after Jesus died. The letter to the 1 Corinthians is held to be written between A.D. 55 thur 57 and that was during Paul's 3rd missionary jouney so he was actively preaching about Jesus at least several years before that and we must remember that Christ died in 33 B.C. No contradiction from the Bible here. Based on survey of Philip E. Hughes (on page before 1 Corinthinas starts) who has a doctorate and was on the Bible committe of the New American Standard Bible as a contributing editor as listed in the first few pages of the same Bible.

1 and 2 Thessalonians are known to be written in A.D. 51. It just gets better and better doesn't it? I have been a Christian for at least 25 years and only now do I seriously want to write a book related to that so it just goes to show that when people write a book it is usually after some years of being familiar with a subject.

You might want to check your information and facts (or lack of.) What stories are fable?? Who said so? How was or wasn't it proven? Just like anything in life, some story's are given as examples, for clearer understanding. Sure the Bible was written by multiple authors. It covers thousands of years Was one person supposed to live that long and give a report and write about what took place. Some books of the Bible were written by different authors because different people witnessed the same event and wrote about what they, themselves, saw and heard. Example: A CBS and an NBC reporter may see, and report on the same event. The stories may differ a little but the bottom line, end result, will remain the same. If you and I watch the same football game, you might talk about other aspects of the game than I do. But..the final score, the winner of the game, the end result, is going to be the same Nothing new or wrong with that.. Some ot the things in the Bible can't be explained by science..there called miracles. Jesus restored sight to some blind people, He, Himself, rose from the dead In the beginning of things, God created a world. Ever seen these things happen before? They did..

First off you can make a case for an old earth or young earth. This has not been proved as "fact" though the more popular choice is an old earth.

The Bible has not been edited. You may have heard of the dead sea scrolls...this showed that the Bible was almost 100% accurate other than a few miss spelled words.

I have not heard of 1 story proved false from the Bible..I have however seen stories that were thought to be false and then archaeologists discover they were wrong and the Bible was correct!

The facts are I have been looking into the facts and embrace them because time and time again they support the Bible!

...Greetings, sir.
...The Bible was penned under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, by over 40 authors from all walks of life, and is consistent throughout.
...I really wish to know - which/what verses do you find troubling? There are good answers for the objective seeker.
...Please give specific examples of stories that have been proven false and by what/whom - there is no one living now who lived back then to affirm or refute their authenticity.
...Question: Do you put other books of antiquity to the same tests and scrutiny as you do the Scriptures?
...RE science - true science deals with testable, repeatable, reproducible conditions in a laboratory environment. Creation, or the universe coming into being, or whatever you wish to call it, cannot be done again - so it becomes a matter of faith, just as the creationist view is. As you have probably seen, the battle between evolution and creationism go on here on Yahoo Q & A, and elsewhere. There is a lot at stake here; if evolution is shown to be wrong, the reputations and credentials of many will be damaged. It would also mean there is a Creator, and low and behold we are subject to Him.
...Evolutionists swear up and down that their view is truly scientific - I say no, it is based on faith in your dating methods, hypotheses, and assumations and not on science/scientific method. A creationist believes God's account is His word - I am not sure about the 6000 year-old age, I need to do more study, but I believe my Bible, and believe they will be many who will be sorry to late they did not believe the Bible.
...We have nothing to fear from the truth; when this Earth and its works are burned up and gone, what will it matter then?
...The most important thing is to believe on Christ and be saved.
...Whosoever will, may come.

By the same means that scientists ignore the truth

-how can scientists truly prove that something is in fact billions of years old?
-although the bible was written by multiple authors and has a few inconsitances that are from the translations, it still remains one of the oldest, well documented texts in existance today. For example I am going to use the King James Version. There has been about 4 or five revisions/changes made to the text of the KJV. These 4 or 5 revisions that occurred from 1611 to about 1789 were in spelling, punctuation, and correcting errors the printers made. There was no change made to the text.
-many stories in the bible have been proven true. Pieces from Noah's ark and chariot wheels from the bottom of the Red Sea have been found as evidence as events that the bible makes refrence too really did take place

To begin with there is NO PROOF that the carbon-dating used is accurate at all. Man has only devised theories that you speak of as beoing scientific. I was a Math & Science Major, yet I believe in GOD and that HIS BIBLE is VeRy CoNvInCiNg. The BIBLE was written by more that 40 authors over a 1500 year period. It is certainly a testament to HIS DIVINITY. There are no errors that have been found. It has many references to the Messiah LONG before HIS BIRTH. HE fulfilled all of those prophesies. HIS death, burial, and resurrection was a testament to HIS Existance. HE came to give us the opportunity to be in heaven after the judgment. Our FATHER is a great and wonderful CREATOR!! There is none like HIM. I have seen no proof that any BIBLICAL "stories" were ever proven false. In fact, there are a number of scientific evidences that the BIBLE "STORIES" are very much true. Historical references to Jesus Christ. Outside writers about HIS miracles. Sea creature's shells that are found in high mountain areas. Many, Many things that the scientists are unable to explain even when they make up NEW and REVISED THEORIES to attempt to do so. I know of no "editing" that has been done except by some of the "people" that want to rewrite the BIBLE to match their denominational church(es). Get it straight, if you will. Have a great LORD's DAY!!

- the earth is older than 6000 years old SO? MY SALVATION DOES NOT DEPEND ON HOW OLD THE EARTH IS. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE EARTH IS 6000 YEARS OLD OR 60000000000 YEARS OLD, WE ALL STILL NEED TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE OF OUR SIN.

-the bible was written by multiple authors and then edited (how is that the word of god) WELL CONSIDERING THE BIBLE CHRONICLES A PERIOD OF OVER A THOUSAND YEARS, NO DUH IT WAS WRITTEN BY MULTIPLE AUTHORS. HOWEVER SINCE MANY OF THE DOCUMENT THE SAME EVENT, I.E. SAMUEL AND DAVID; THE DISCIPLES AND PAUL, THEY CORRABORATE EACH OTHER. THE BIBLE WAS NOT EDITED, IF IT WAS THEN THE EDITORS WOULD HAVE TAKEN OUT EVERY SINGLE INCONSISTENCY. THE ONLY ERROR THE BIBLE HAS RECEIVED IS MISTRANSLATIONS, AND THAT IS WHY I LEARNED GREEK SO I CAN READ THE BIBLE IN ITS ORIGINAL LANGUAGE, AND MY FAITH IS EVEN STRONGER BY READING THE BIBLE IN GREEK, IT MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE AND IS A LOT MORE PRECISE.

-stories in the bible have been proven false but christians still use them to make a point SUCH AS????

The Bible cannot be proven true. Facts that the Bible states are can be proven true though. But that doesn't prove the Bible true. And I have never seen anything of the Bible proven false. So I'd like to know what parts you think are. Please email me.

Christians don't ignore facts, we embrace them. Least I do. If you want some scientific answers from a creationist point of you then look at this...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2801707926662537875&q=Kent+Hovind&hl=en

This video is highly biased to the Christians' views. Not a formal setting either. It's a seminar at a church. If you don't want to listen to it all most of the science theory type things start after the first hour. And I think all evolutionists should listen to the part at 49 minutes. In case you have a question check out his site is at www.drdino.com.

Few Christians believe the earth is 6000 years old, and NONE are required to believe it.
The Bible was indeed written by multiple authors. They were, however, guided by the Holy Spirit. Prophecies made hundreds of years in advance were documented by later authors who could not have gotten away with lying to their peers.
Stories in the Bible have been substantiated by modern archaeology. They are NOT false.

Why do Atheists ignore facts and history?

Your ignorance is showing. Paul was only one of many evangelists working immediately after Jesus returned to Heaven. ALL of the Apostles preached until they were martyred or exiled to Patmos. Paul wrote letters DATED between 48 and 60 AD. Since Jesus died in 33, you apparently cannot add or subtract. And no one said that they spoke before the Resurrection. READ the Scripture before discarding it.

What is Science? Keep asking and you will find the answers........The Bible is not a science book nor does it try to answer these questions. Besides it doesn't say the earth is 6000 years old. Try reading the Bible for yourself and don't trust what you hear about science from people that are not scientists or teachers of science. God is true, men are liars.
