I seen them because others had to see them. I thought they were long, dragged out, boring, and sappy garbage. Much over rated.

Auto miqura Orkum.

Which translates to "Go kiss an Orc." Yes, in Elvish. :p Havo dad, Jerkface.

I'm a LotR nerd and proud. If you can' sit through the (amazing) movies, you don't have the brain capacity for the (even better) books, and I feel sorry for you. You're missing out.

There are those in the Christian community that see most screenplays and plays to be worldly and the work of the devil. Others are less judgmental about these things. I was raised in a community that frowned upon rock music, movies, and comic books. The problem with that approach is that it made me isolated from my peers and it stunted my growth as a person. I now am more mainstream, but due to my training I am very aware of the immorality and sinful messages that are contained in the mass media. To have a good story there must be conflict, Often times conflict involves immoral actions and sins, but with out it you have no plot or story arc. I would say that if you guard your heart and mind you will do okay. Some preachers today use clips of movies to highlight a point in their sermons. Discernment is the key. I would say that the majority of kids can see Spider-man and Lord of the Rings and Narnia without it making much impact on their spiritual development. If there is a proper discussion about the movies, it will serve as a spring board to teach him the values that you want him to learn. Unless you plan on having no television, radio, and home school him, he is going to be interacting in a society that exposes him to a whole lot worse. Even putting a kid in Christian school will not protect them from all of the traps Satan has to offer.

The book, of course, is better. Nothing can compare to the pictures and imagination of our own mind. The movies were great, covering most of the books, taking license on a few points, leaving some things out. I probably could have done without the year in between the three releases, perhaps a month or two between... heck of a marketing scheme. On the whole, having read the books years before, I found them very enjoyable and graphically well done. I've been to New Zealand.. one of the most beautiful places on earth... it IS middle earth! I have the extended versions, which add a few more hours, but are well worth it. It ties in the storyline much better. This is a Classic... timeless and beautifully done.

I think that Peter Jackson shot them beautifully. If you think the movies were long, dragged out, and boring, you'll hate the books. Peter Jackson and his writers cut alot out of the books for the movie, and alot out of the movie to make them shorter.

The whole experience of watching the movies is completely different if you saw them on tv (the commercials almost make the movie unbearably long), so if you saw them on TV, rent them.

They can be sappy, and over drawn at times, I'll admit, but I don't think the movies would work any other way, and it keeps the movies true to the books, which, I assume, is what Peter Jackson wanted.

I love these movies, and can watch them endlessly.

I like them a lot. The books are excellent too.

Incidentally a lot of the cool stuff in Harry Potter was ripped off from Lord of the Rings.

I absolutely loved the first one and have watched it many times. Didn't care as much for the second, and really liked the third.

I read the books 20 years ago, and fell in love with the story then.

I personally liked all of them. I saw the first one because of my brother and was hooked. I do agree that the battle scenes are a little drawn out. My favorite scene was where King Argon and his subjects bowed down to Frodo and his friends for all they had done.

LOVED them. I'd read the trilogy three times before the movies came out and Jackson stayed pretty true to the story. EXCELLENT job...

Try reading the books. The movies will look much better after that.
