Allergies are genetic. More and more people have allergies in their genes because it is a dominant trait. They are working hard to come up with a cure, but so far avoidance and desensitizing shots are the answer.

You can also help prevent kids from getting food allergies by not introducing too many foods at a young age.

Some allergies can be outgrown if they are not serious - such as allergy to dust, or asthma (in some cases, the spray makes it worse in the long run, as it causes the lungs to atrophy). Some allergies are caused by eating too much of that particular food - that's why children must eat varied food. And some types of food have a higher allergenic potential - that is, if you eat too much you are more likely to develop an allergy to that food (for example strawberries).
But allergies can develop at any age. I'm 21 and I've come up with a mild allergy to cocoa - I can't eat chocolate without sneezing and having a running nose some time after that.

I was told by my doctor that allergies happen in stages. Some stages where you develop new allergies, and other stages where you out grow an allergy. I guess it depends on what stage the person's at, and how their body reacts to the allergens.

I have no clue about the cure, but I heard on news that in the UK they're pretty close to developing a vaccination.

Good question. It is the sign of our times. With every generation of new births come greater numbers of food allergies of the babies. It has to be environmental in origin.
