I honestly think we'd spend the next 50 years proving and debating over whether the truth of the notion that the earth is damaged beyond repair, sort of like we've done with global warming, etc. That's something that we've known about for quite some time and look at all the time we've spent just debating over it, and nothing gets done about it, it only gets worse.

On another view, we already have recognized that the earth has been damaged beyond repair in many aspects, but that hasn't stopped anyone yet. Further, what would power generators necessarily have to do with damaging the earth and that if we did not stop them? As much of a tree hugger as I am, I believe in a balance- we need society, our economy, and modern lives, yet we need to be respective of the environment. If we turned off all power tomorrow, the world would be in complete chaos- it wouldn't solve anything, most likely make it all worse.

The main thing I've learned through my environmental studies is that we need balance. Not all power generators are bad. We need power regardless, and some are better than others. Some are more appropriate than others in certain situations. Hydroelectric power is relatively clean, but can alter the paths of rivers, even dry some up and alter habitats. Nuclear hasn't really been around long enough to establish long term effects of nuclear waste, but otherwise it appears safe as long as its managed well. I understand what you're asking to some extent, but I also don't think you're looking at things in the right scope, but I hope I helped!
